I know I am going to get stick but some people seem to have a real pren hoblem with Platt just because he is an honest journeyman.

I still feel if you looked at his record in open play he has a similar record than Juke who although I like I feel is very overrated by many.

Again when Platt came on we scored two goals today and could have won, when he came on last game he helped to make the penalty that could have won us the game! If Juke had made this impact when coming on as sub people what be crying out for him to start that's for sure.

Personally I think if fit enough Platt & Deegs should start on Saturday in place of Bell & O'Donovan.

What are people's thoughts and why are so many so harsh on Platt his stats overall probably make him our most effective striker...which granted is slighlty sad!

Secondly know it is gutting to let in last min equalisers and even winners. Did not make the game tonight as working late in London but still remember Palace only too well! :facepalm: However was this such a terrible result given league positions, and resources currently available to two clubs in question. Overall once disappointment has died down hope people will view this as a hard earned point. Sounds as if it was fair result to be honest.

Value people's opinions who were at game as always hard to judge by reports!

I think people have Platt misunderstood as a player. Despite his height, I don't see him as a ball winner in the air. Getting that frame up high into the air can't be easy and as a basketball player I see time and time again 6ft+ tall people being out-jumped by people around 5ft10 because they have less bulk and weight on them.

Platt does quite well with the ball at his feet. He holds the play up and then spreads it out wide with a nice pass. That's what he does best. Sure if he gets some space in the box he can direct a free header towards the goal but against a springy defender he won't win a lot. I wish more people would notice this.

I have no problem with that at all. Platt may not be the greatest player to ever grace a football pitch but i rate him higher than Roy "Goals" O Donovon.
If Deegs can stay fit i'd drop David "Pilkington" Bell until he remebers he's supposed to be a professional footballer.

Oh ffs we really do have short memories don't we? This is a useless lump who just hasn't had a go for a few weeks. When he fails and Freddie's fit again we'll be clammering for him, then it will be Juke, RO'D and Cody - rinse and repeat. We simply don't create or score enough. Our personnel are not upto it but that's a statement of where we're at. There is no golden ticket nor a new messiah I'm afraid.

Agreed that he was immense, but then he was around 300% more effective last season when used as an impact-sub. Great at holding the ball up, powerful and a real beast, he really shook up their defence. Granted it was after an injury to a CB, but kudos for AT for spotting that potential weakness and immediately summoning The Tree.

And I have just started to realise-his distribution is criminally under-rated. He is actually a much better player under AT than AB, as he gives us another man who can hold the ball with his back to goal (the best since Dele)-suited to our passing game, but with a powerful aerial presence too. Really happy with his contribution, but still think he's best as a sub for now.

Your name is seriously ironic, as the one bad moment Platt had was when he was the target for a long ball down the channel..as he "sprinted" for it, he was 3 yards ahead of Crainey..then 2, then 1..then behind him, and he ended up making a foul. I immediately said to my mates, "Shades of John Williams there!"

He's def a good journeyman player. Has alot to offer if he can stay fit for the season he should be in double figures for goals scored. Fingers crossed.

Yup he may be a lump but as i said i rate him higher than O Donovan,& Freddies a disgrace to the shirt.Not claiming he's the messiah or anything.
Yes we are woefully short of quality players but obviously SI*U aint going to do anything about it.

Cheers folks from reading Rob's previous comments I knew he was not his biggest fan I still think he is being overly harsh though!

Maybe he is better as an impact sub but personally think even if you think he is useless a big lump who shakes up defences is more effective than a buzzy lightweight e.g. rod or CMD...(or buzzy heavyweight dependant on whose viewpoint you take)!

Eastwood....Still hoping that physcially and mentally he sorts himself out we could still do with him I think at some stage this season!

Clive Platt hasn't been a respected pro for over 17 years for no reason. He has always been played by managers wherever he has played and boothroyd regarded him as one of the most underrated target men whilst Lambert was looking at him over the summer for Norwich For his size he has an excellent touch and I recall mcshefffrey last season raving about his cushioned headers. At 33 he is not young but he always appears in good shape. If I have a criticism it is only that he could be more selfish. It's a common misconception that plattini is only a long ball target man, Google for the Norwich vs Colchester 7 : 1 demolition a couple of years back.

I would like to see Platt start with either Juke or McDonald (when fit) and see the goals flow.

If strikers were judged not just by the goals they score but also goals they bring to a team I think platt would be much more highly rated.

Norwich V Colchester was opening day of the season and I think the best thing that could have happened to complacent Norwich who went on to win the league. I believe Lambert and Bothroyd managed him at Colchester which is why they were interested in his services and yet even their fans at a league lower than us laughed when we signed him. He doesn't win enough ball in the air which we automatically play to himn when he's on, he can't direct the headers he does win, he doesn't score enough goals, he has no pace or mobility and seems to be about as bight as a broken bulb. The first and only time he has played at this level despite this long career was when Hoofroyd was looking for a big cheap lump to hoist it up to. There is a reason why no other managers have taken the plunge to select him at this level before. Still when we're in League one next season perhaps he'll be ok.

Whatever you think of him-and I'm not exactly his greatest fan-he was bloody incredible against Norwich in that game, regardless of context. Never mind the goals he scored, he set up all the others too! He was also one of the most vital players when Aidy's tactics were working, but he always had more impact as sub even then. A few games were won by Platt coming on and causing absolute mayhem. Tonight he contributed invaluably, and on Saturday he played a delightful ball to Lukas for the pen. Beggars can't be choosers, and the CCFC first team squad is stronger now for having Clive Platt available.

Maybe I just love a good old relegation battle...it makes me get behind the players even more than usual.

The key thing about Platt for me is, when he's on the pitch Jutkiewicz looks a better player. I like the Juke anyway but I think Plattini brings the best out of him, both last season and this.

I agree. Jutkiewicz played more out left when Platt came on and this allowed him more space and he didnt have to win headers and get kicked by centre halfs. I personally think Lukas could fill the Taylor-Fletcher role of being a wide playing striker who can cut in and finish and win headers from diagonal balls.
