They weren't outside Barnbys, PCH. They were outside Davies Sports shop, further down Smithford Way, towards the Corporation St end.

Don't think anyone on here will recognise this! The Old Shepherd, Keresley Road Pre 1935.

I'll see how this goes. If anyone wants to see any pics from years gone by, then post a comment. I have nearly a thousand. Also I have nearly 250 pictures of Coventry pubs, some no longer with us or have had name changes.

If you have such photos you should donate them to a Historical Society, Museum or one of the many websites hosting old local photos. It would be a tragedy for such old records to be lost.

They were outside Davies sports shop if I remember right.

I have quite a few old photos and negatives taken in and around Coventry but no way of scanning them.
Does anyone have a photo of the Shire Horse pub that used to be in Caradoc Close on the Manor Farm estate in Walsgrave?

Doubt it. Never get out of there in one piece with a camera! When we were kids my sister was a nightmare at the dentists. We ended up at the one on Caradoc close next to the Shire horse as they were the only ones that'd put up with her in the end!

That's one pub I don't have any pics of. Strangely enough, it was my local for some years! It's a shame you can't scan your old pics and negatives. Do you know anyone with a printer/scanner? Negatives are easy enough as well. Scan them. Then open them in Photoshop (or similar) and invert them. I've done quite a few.

I had really bad toothache and had to wait to see the dentist there so popped in the Shire for a couple of pints to numb the pain. Did the trick and stayed in the pub instead and didn't bother with dentist. Toothache came back though so ended up back but because I missed original appointment they weren't happy !

My family had the chip shop in Alderman's Green opposite the miners arms. I can remember the old pub but cant remember the new one being built, apparently the new one was built in front of the old one. Does anyone have any pictures of it?
I also remember the Slough, it had boats on it's lake and a snack bar open in the summer. It used to get rammed down there

The Shire Horse was a nice local pub when it first opened. It used to be the local of an old girlfriend of mine.
I gather it turned bad at some point, was shuttered, subjected to an arson attack and then demolished. Nothing remains now except a slab of concrete.

I went down the Slough a week ago and it's a nice nature reserve and great for walking. Sadly no boats on the water anymore and hasn't been for many years. But it's nice there to get away from noisy neighbours !
And the chippy is doing a roaring trade even without the Miners being there and serve the best chips in the area.

Its situated between Wood End and Aldermans Green. As I'm in Bell Green it's handy for good walks. Its been cleaned up well over the years and lots of wildlife etc.

Worth checking out if you like hiking etc. You get a few runners/cyclists down there and ramblers too.

There was a Davies Sports shop in Far Gosford St. Maybe this is what BBR was thinking of. I remember there was a night-time break-in and the burglars were still inside when the cops came round. One of the burglars shot and killed one of the cops with a shotgun. I'll try and dig out the story. I'm sure it was early 70's.

On the M6 before you get to Junction 2 from 3, on the left there's a marina sort of opposite to where woodway park is on the right. Whats that?
