This was my Day 1 Convo with Crewe Ticket Office:
Phoned Crewe Today and I Quote
Me : Hi I wonder if you can help me - I would like to buy 8 tickets for the Coventry Game.
Crewe Ticket Office (CTO) : At Coventry?
Me : No the 2nd Leg at home
CTO : Where are you from?
Me : Crewe
CTO : Have you bought from us before?
Me : No Im buying them as a present
CTO : Do the people you are buying them for live in Coventry by any chance
Me : Why do you ask?
CTO : Because this is at least the 20th phone call Ive taken today for this match and I suspect all of them are from Coventry as we really havent sold any yet! Whats your Postcode?
Me : I will get back to you as my mobile is ringing with an urgent call.
CTO : BTW YOU DONT SOUND AS THOUGH YOURE FROM AROUND THESE PARTS!

Rumbled by a very tricky and cunning ticket office operative

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS BUT I CAME UP WITH A CUNNING PLAN OF MY OWN AND THIS IS HOW IT WENT.

This is how I got on today.............................................Part 2

Me : Hi Is that the ticket Office
CTO : Yes How can we help
Me : Im a member of the Warwickshire branch of the Crewe Supporters Club and I would like to buy 18 tickets for the Coventry Cup game 2nd leg please.
CTO : Are you affilated.
Me : No not at the moment but I might be interested
CTO : Ive never heard of the Warwickshire Branch before - where are you based and how many members do you have?
Me : Stratford Upon Avon - you know - where Shakespeare used to live - weve got 31 members at the moment!
CTO : Ahh Yes Shakespeare - I know a bit about him. I will need to put you through to someone else if youre after a discount!
Me : No No Thats fine I will pay the going rate!
CTO :Youre not really a Coventry Supporter are you? Just pretending to be a supporters club so you can get tickets.........
Me : Errr No
CTO : OK - Well the maximum tickets I can sell to one person is 8
Me : Thats fine I will take the 8 and get some of the other members to pick some more up in the next couple of days
CTO : Right well before we go any further you will need to register and the other members of the supporters club will also all need to register before I can sell you any tickets. So do you have the 31 names and addresses available now or would you like to get back to me?
Me : I think I will need to get back to you!
CTO : OK - One last thing before you go - When did we last get to the Final of The Johnstones Paint Trophy? Im sure you can answer that if youre in the Crewe Supporters Club!
Me : Ha YES nice one I will call you back tomorrow
Rumbled once again I think.

(For the record I looked up the Crewe Honours List and theyve never won it!)

Put on an American accent and say you are visiting from overseas and are in Crewe on business with a number of co workers. Say that you are a Manchester United fan and that you fly home the next day and wanted to fulfil your dream of watching an AWESOME SOCCER GAME. Then ask if it goes into OVERTIME. Also ask how much the uniforms cost to buy as my son Brandon and daughter Britanny would like me buy them a gift.

My Mum lives in Dorset. Need to check to see if she is ok with it, but I can ask her if she minds tickets being sent to her house. She can then forward them to you by recorded delivery.

Bit daft really. Warwickshire branch of Crewe supporters.

Don't think there's even a Crew branch of Crewe supporters.

Don't know why you don't just go for one of the Stoke or Crewe postcodes.

Another option is this. Just pick out a common name, then look on BT Phonebook.

Ohh you could go for the charity angle and say you want to get tickets to help you raise money for a trust or charity? You could then talk to her about it, make her feel guilty then they're you go tickets if not free ones

Best to keep the story simple.

And why don't you just buy 4 tickets instead of 8 or whatever? Get 4 tickets. If successful, get someone else to ring tomorrow.

Just go for a name and a local address up there. Why would they question you further?

Just get a bit of background info.

Such as, the names of the stands.

  • The Air Products Stand (formerly the Railtrack Stand, before a change in sponsors) – built prior to the 1999/2000 season at a cost of £5.2 million. It accommodates 6,809 spectators, together with the club's office accommodation.
  • The Mark Price Stand, (formerly The AB Nutrition Stand, before a change in sponsors[1]) – also known as the Gresty Road End, accommodates 982 spectators and four disabled spectators.
  • The Wulvern Housing Stand, also known as the Railway End, accommodates 682 spectators.
  • The Whitby Morrison Ice Cream Vans Stand, formerly the Pop, originally the Popular Side, accommodates 1,680 away spectators.

I'm sure if you name the stand you want tickets for you will be more easily believed.

I've been laughing my socks off at these accounts of your attempts Gary. Bit embarrassing as I'm in a public place.

How about calling them up and saying you're from the Warwickshire branch of the Aston Villa supporter's club. Say you're getting so sick of the stick from Cov supporting work colleagues and watching the rubbish at Villa Park that you want to organise a branch outing to come to cheer Crewe on against Cov... and see some decent football for once!

Of course, pretending to be Villa fans might be a line too far to cross.
