Petition: Force the FA and EFL to create stricter "fit and proper" tests for new owners
My petition:
Force the FA and EFL to create stricter "fit and proper" tests for new owners
Football teams such as Coventry, Charlton, Blackpool, Leyton Orient etc have had the pleasure of being mishandled by owners. The FA and EFL don't care about what's going on in their own organisations and it's time it stopped they need a stricter criteria for owners who will benefit the club.
Blackpool, from the heights of that one famous season in the premiership to the echelons of league 2. Charlton a once proud premier League team, yo-yoing between the championship and league 1. Coventry, with their plight under sisu which could see them expeled from the football league. Just 3 examples of many lower league teams under owners who don't care about the club and what it means to communities up and down the country
I know this is probably not going to get off the ground, but I am trying a different approach considering i cant get to games due to work commitments (i work at mcdonalds so i work every weekend) so i cannot join in protests and what not... this is my way of helping and trying to make sure that what ever happens come the 5th of march (or indeed the 25th april) that other football clubs do not have to go through the same shit we have been over the past 12 odd years.. (ironically they brought the club on my birthday at the time i loved it, now on the other hand....)
As i state, i know this wont get off the ground but at least i am trying and i would appreciate the support if any of you guys can do it for me
thanks.... appreciate the constructive feedback..It’s bollocks
thanks.... appreciate the constructive feedback..
growing up when i took the interest in football.. charlton were a premier league team,Charlton have hardly ever been a premier league team, my angst against the oystens is well known but their only top flight appearance in almost half a century was with them as owners and we had never been in the top flight in our first 80 years
growing up when i took the interest in football.. charlton were a premier league team,
whilst i dont deny that blackpools top flight season was in the top flight, look at what has happened since then... with the same owners,
as for coventry? i have never once said/thought that we were a big team in the first place... what point i am trying to make is the following "lower league football is not cared about yet in certain cases it is a key point for a community, something needs to be done"... if i made it specifically about coventry do you honestly think that i would have mentioned charlton or blackpool?
as i say... thankyou for the constructive feedback. it has been taken on board and will probably get thrown overboard as well after careful consideration... just FYI ... i state "i know this probably wont get off the ground." so to be honest, your comments were expected, i am SO PROUD that you have taken the time out of your sunday evening to contribute with a well thought out and well presented arguement.
How do you define a fit and proper owner?
someone who has taken the time to learn the clubs history (for several reasons, such as background checking for potiential investment, care of club, care of fanbase) , provide clear evidence of funds to purchase and sustain the club, clear evidence of previous investment over a sustained period, it varies from person to person.. what i consider important in a fit and proper owner may not be what you consider fit and proper.
thankyou i appreciate that!!... i cant change it now, and i was thinking in short term memory but very true! portsmouth went through a whole heap of shit beofre their fans took over!Signed.
Can I suggest that you add Portsmouth to the list? Few teams have been shit on more by owners than Portsmouth.
no i dont because the portsmouth fans KNOW THE CLUBS HISTORY which correct me if i am wrong... i did state... when answering your last question? So is the owner of Chelsea fit and proper in your view say compared to the owner of a supporters trust run club like Portsmouth?
no i dont because the portsmouth fans KNOW THE CLUBS HISTORY which correct me if i am wrong... i did state... when answering your last question?
and honestly... yeah i do think he is a fit and proper owner for chelsea... look at the success they have had under his tenure as owner
So debt and financial impropriety is fine as long as it yields short term benefit?
Portsmouth have zero chance of returning to the premier league under self sustainability
You seem a bit simple
Abramovich knew Chelsea's history but he chose to totally ignore it and win multiple trophies year on year.
I think what Grendel is trying to say (in his usual impatient, rude way) is that's a far too simplistic measure.which correct me if i am wrong.... means that their fans are a hell of a lot more happier than coventrys currently?
The sooner fans get away from the expectation of loads of money ploughed in the better.
See Accrington for a decent owner.
Its far too fashionable now to be whinging about owners when the results aren't going their way, I remember Swindon at the Ricoh singing about it, they scored and went quiet.
Same as that stoke fan who came on going on about their "plight".
A bad owner isn't somebody who won't plough millions in the club doesnt have.
Up to now, sisu haven't been milking the club have they? You could also say we are closer to self sufficiency...im not saying that the owner needs to plough money into the club.. what i am saying is the owner needs to take responsibility for the club. ideally making it self sufficient in the process. not do what the likes of sisu are doing and the oystons did do, milking the club for all its worth before destroying it.
im not asking for owners to bankroll champions league winning sides, im just asking for owners to be what they claim to be in their take over bids.
I think what Grendel is trying to say (in his usual impatient, rude way) is that's a far too simplistic measure.
Randy Lerner spent £250-£300m at Villa and still got hounded out by fans. So was he a fit and proper owner?
Conversely, we're quite happy fans at the moment (regarding the team) but hate our owners who haven't spent a penny (recently).
Also the EFL did agree an update to the fit and proper persons check at the start of this season.
neither were coventry fans when sisu took over either... then situations develop etc etc and here we areI doubt Orient fans were bothered when they were paying Henderson just under 10k a week amongst others either.
i tried, but you only get 1000 characters to use so yeah... thankyou for signing though i appreciate itSigned...but I feel the petition lacks detail. But good on you and fingers crossed....
Signed, no reason not to.
I think for something to really gain traction and pressure be put on the authorities to implement it someone has to detail an alternative, how should it actually work. Realistically that involves a huge change in football from the PL down for every team to be sustainable. If you do that they become less attractive to people like SISU and the foreign owners. You might actually get back to owners being people who actually give a shit about the clubs and their communities.
That's part of the problem. F&P can't ever solve that, you're asking them to predict the future.neither were coventry fans when sisu took over either... then situations develop etc etc and here we are
true they cant, maybe i could have worded it better.. this is my first ever time attempting something like this thoughThat's part of the problem. F&P can't ever solve that, you're asking them to predict the future.
in my eyes yes he was, didnt stop supporting the club financially, even when he was getting hounded, was a regular in the top half of the prem at the time, decent manager (im talking about o'neil)
we are with the team i agree, but like i stated to grendel, im not just talking about coventry in my link, im talking about all clubs (not just the ones who i mentioned) who have crappy owners and trying to highlight the danger that lower league teams face in general
they may have agreed to it, but did they give a timeline? if so then i am mistaken, however if not then its an indefenite process
A fair few were.neither were coventry fans when sisu took over either... then situations develop etc etc and here we are
