Part of the stadium that will host the World Cup opener in Brazil has collapsed, killing three people, local media has reported.

Television images show a metal structure buckled at the top of the Itaquerao Stadium in Sao Paolo, destroying part of the stands.
Some local media reported that the accident occurred when a crane collapsed.
The stadium was 94% complete. The accident could delay the delivery of the stadium in Sao Paulo by FIFA's December deadline to have all 12 venues ready.

There was a report at the weekend that several of these Stadiums are running late ,maybe a few more get out clauses happening in the next few months.

At least it happened now and now when it was full with thousands of people. I just hope that they are being built to standard and not done cheaply and rushed.

Not looking good really. They're right on the limit for stadiums required to host too. They were already well behind and missed lots of deadlines. Wonder what will happen if much more goes wrong?

Blatter (several times throughout the last few years): "England is the only country that could host a World Cup tomorrow". :thinking about:
