I suspect if Juke is leaving then a pacey striker will come in to compliment the Beast.

We really need some attacking midfield players though.

To be honest... Turner hasn't played for a while and I don't think our current defence is an issue at all. We have the cover. If we get cash and Parkin it is a better deal as any straight cash deal would see SISU gobble it up.

I've heard the "he did OK against us arguement before", the last one I remember was McIndoe who always had a blinder... Great signing he turned out to be

Truth be told the majority of players in this league and below can do OK against us... More to do with us than them I fear

The facts are, and always were, that we were going to lose players this window. Turner is almost gone and Juke will be. We need to back the team with whatever we have.

In my view Parkin could be a real fan favourite if he puts himself around a bit. We will be in a relegation fight, and we need the sort of characters to stand up and be counted. Feed the Beast and he will score...

Parkin has been referred to as "The Beast" and fans have chanted "Feed The Beast and he will score".

I'm sure we'll all back him once he pulls a Sky Blue shirt over his head. that's if he can get it over his head, but I think most of us are disappointed because he isn't the type of player we are really crying out for.

Those people saying Parkin is just a lump have never seen him play and are basically generalising because he is a big lad! He's technically very good and can score with both feet and his head. He's very good with the ball at his feet. If you've never seen him play before just watch his hat-trick against Leeds last season or his debut goal for Cardiff. Now, I'm just correcting some people on here, but I'd rather we keep Juke as much for his age compared to Parkin than anything.

Thanks for the kind words but he scored 6 goals in 39 appearances for Stoke, doesn't bode well does it.

He has only ever scored more than 13 goals in a season once in his career and that in league 2

The most goals he has ever scored at championship level is 11 and that was about 3-4 seasons ago now.

He wasn't any good when he was at his peak and he is even worse now.

You can be a lump and have technical ability. When people say lump I think they are referring to his mobility, how fast he can get around a pitch, work rate etc.

Straight replacement for Juke and as such is a poor deal, would have him, Juke, Eastwood and someone in the ALF mould, but not a front line of Eastwood and Parkin, though as least they'd be hungry....

i remeber everyone laughing when we signed mickey quin too, but they were soon singing his name,. me personally i love parkin, when ever i have seen him i have noticed our defence have problems with him.. that is it guys he would be a great big strong presence in the opposition area, some one for the likes of jukebox to play off. we are such a weak team, it will do us some good to have powerhouse up front.

The big difference between parkin and Quinn is that we had an abundance of pace in our side with nuddy and John Williams so that quinny didn't have to move far and it also created space for him, and also meant that more often then not we got behind teams to get an early cross in. We are completely lacking pace and rarely get around the back and usually fire crosses late after teams have regrouped.

I agree with BelarusSkyblue, Parkin always does well against us and has scored more than a few times for Preston against us as I recall.
I know for a fact that if I were lining up against him I wouldn't fancy it-he is a big old unit thats for sure.
I checked out some of his goals on YouTube last night and he is like a bulldozer in the penalty area and for a bloke of his size he has scored a few from run-ins from the half way line.
I think that if, and thats a BIG IF, the boys can give the Beast the service he will shut all the piss takers up-just as I recall, like all the disenters when we signed Mickey"Sumo"Quinn.
Give the bloke a break-he hasn't even pulled on a sky blue shirt yet!!

All big strikers do well against us - Henderson, Sidibe, Howard and Parkin, that's more to do with the fact ghat we usually have quite small players and lack a dominant centre half (except ben turner). McPake, cranie, Cameron, wood and keogh will always struggle against the big man.

And I've already commented on micky Quinn.

Work rate's good, mobility isn't that bad for his size. This is what I'm saying, don't just assume things about players. If he joins he joins and we have to support that. Prefer it to be as well as Juke but looks like we won't have that luxury.

kg - I have seen Parkin play and sorry but he is a lump - whilst he is a strong bustling muscular type forward his first touch is poor and he has less pace than Platt. He is a lot better than Platt and always is a handful for defences and does possess a decent shot and knows where the back of the net is but he is just not the sort of player we need, we need pace and that is the one quality the big lad lacks. I also fear that this signals the departure of Juke which will be a real shame as this lad will be a very very good player with the right coaching and more importantly service.

I hope Mr Parkin isn't reading all this negativity - what a welcome - even before he's put the Sky Blue shirt on !!!

I've mentioned in a previous post that his actual career goals per season is 12+ (I know its not a lot a la Kevin Philips standard but reasonably useful) and I have seen him play for Preston a few times where he was a cult figure as in their fans actually appreciated his performances.

For a big guy he can hold the ball to feet very well and can lay off with his head also

For too long we have had a succession of forwards who habitually drift out to the flanks leaving the penalty area reduced in numbers so I am sure we can capitalise using him as a goal scorer and provider of assists.

Judge him after 6-10 games and if he is not the answer I am sure the resident boo boys will let him know

So all I say at this juncture is come on big man show us what you can do as I think you might surprise one or two with your passion, commmitment and overall ability in support of our hour of need.

Parkin doesnt even want to come anyway.

http://www.coventrycity-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/parkin_not_wanting_to_leave_cardiff_698104/index.shtml

I know currently it might limited us to Bedlam Mental Hospital fc, but should we not be signing players that want to play for us?

All players want to play - the question is how good are they. We need someone who knows where the net is - he fits that bill

I disagree completely about Parkin. But I'm not comparing him to a pacy player. He is what he is and he does it well, if the manager wants a pacy striker then he needs to try and convince the board to get one - obviously, we know they won't!

If he doesn't want to come then fair enough. Apparently Turner doesn't want to go to Cardiff either.

so, to confirm, we now have 4 strikers with realistically not 1p resale value between all of them !

Great work !

I remember turner saying that he was a bit of a home bod and didn't like being way from home and wanted to stay in the midlands for the whole of his career. He said this when he signed a new contract.
