Also, there's a possibility that we could lose BTA for a month due to the African cup of nations (so I've been told) If that's true another experienced striker would make sense as short term cover, and the lad uses the time to get fit and put himself in the shop window.
I checked that this morning - Ghana didn’t qualify, we’re fine

I just had in my mind Bamford was always more of a fox in the box, poacher sort of forward. Do we need another?

It's quite different if he's capable of playing out wide as more of an inside forward, but I don't remember that being his game.
Ive always seen him as a target man who chips in with goals. Id liken him to Simms over anyone else in our squad. Thats the role I'd see him playing for us if any. And like I say, if its a straight up decision between him or Simms, he's certainly got a better eye for goal and a better pedigree than Simms. And I say that as someone who's been very impressed with Simms this season.

My main and only gripe would be fitness levels. We play the way we do and win balls high up because of our fitness and willingness to run and press. Hes already 4 months behind the rest of the squad in terms of that. Unless he's been working hard, I see his fitness being the main sticking point.

Seems its just a favour to help him stay fit but i guess it could turn into a Paterson situation depending on how he trains.
Lampard said the same about Paterson last season, re just training with us and kept coy about it until we signed him where he said it was in the pipeline all along

If he looks sharp and is a worthwhile asset we will give him a contract I am sure of that

If he's injury cover and that's it, fine. Don't want him taking minutes from Simms or anyone else atm.
What if we do sign him and he gets match fit, plays some minutes and scores 1 or 2 goals???
We take what we can, and if that isn’t the norm name on the team sheet, so what, as long as we keep winning. I can fully see why FL has done this if indeed he signs 🤞🏼

What underlying stats? Just checked his xg figures and they’re very good.

Exactly. XG as a team is usually a good barometer as to how a team is playing. For an individual it's normally not a good sign if they underperform especially if it's over a sustained period.

Since 2017!! Bamford is the worst underperformer in the world for goals scored against his individual xG.

Like him.

If it is more than fitness he’ll barely get a game, but by all accounts he’s a good experienced and positive head to have around the club. And it’s a different option to the other.

If it’s just fitness then the above still applies!

I've heard the cafe is excellent at Ryton and he's just there for the frothy coffee ☕️

It was about this time in that Tony Mowbray spell when he went for Cole, so not sure what effect he has on things really ,so for that reason be extremely cautious, then consider what is behind it ?

I get the feeling our current coaching staff can turn a turd into gold.
Wont give a short-term contract unless he deserves it.
Lets wait and see, as he used to be good.

Only if it's on a pay as you play contract we don't want another Sheaf. 🙄

Would be surprised if we signed him, but then again a couple of years ago we resorted to signing Sean McGuire (I think) from Preston...

I know he is only training with us currently, but if we signed him in Jan on a short-term contract I would understand why.
