He's the most underperforming player when it comes to xG in Europe I'm pretty sure. At least he was. I've posted about it before.

Unless he's been keeping himself in ridiculously good nick, I don't see it. Though I assume Lampard isn't going to offer anyone a contract for the sake of it

Ex-Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford training with Coventry City

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as we exclusively reveal the story behind Patrick Bamford training with the Sky Blues at Ryton
www.coventrytelegraph.net

Seems its just a favour to help him stay fit but i guess it could turn into a Paterson situation depending on how he trains.

In July he was training with some fitness specialist.

Unless he has been training with us a while but that likely would have leaked

Pedigree is there. Experienced. No fee. Not much to dislike really. Providing the coaching staff deem him to not have too many cobwebs. Will be our only player who knows what it takes to be promoted to the Prem

Did Lampard and Bamford ever play together?

Judging on last season it is the actual goals that the issue these days.

That’s not an underlying stat though is it lol.

His underlying stats are good, it’s the actual goals that are the issue

Former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is training with Coventry City, hooking up with his former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard.

CoventryLive understands, however, that contrary to reports suggesting the Sky Blues’ boss is looking to strengthen his attacking options with the 32-year-old free agent, the arrangement is merely a case of Lampard doing the player a favour while he looks for another club.

Makes absolutely perfect sense to me. Got room in the squad, cover if Haji or Ellis are injured, great experience and will score goals

Hes not had much game time over the last 2 seasons due to two injuries. So I guess it depends if he has been working on this over summer.

Last match I saw him player he looked dreadful. But a change of club and coaching could bring his spark back

Not really sure I can see Lampard inviting anyone to training as a favour given the current situation- must be a chance of him signing.

We will lost BTA for the Africa Cup of Nations. It might be prudent to have an experienced back up striker on a pay as you play deal, similar to Paterson which, even for one goal alone, was worth it.

One player we should be trying to buy is Barry Bannan as a backup for Grimes because he could do the job.

Didn’t expect that, they used to be a dominant outfit in Africa. At least we keep BTA!!!

Maybe Doug is gonna tap him up for some investment cash. Think Bamford is part of the JCB family.

In the highly unlikely event that he did sign, he could do a job from the bench in just holding the ball up and allowing us to get up field and relieve some pressure.
We were crying out for that in the last 10 minutes against Portsmouth, and for most of the second half against Oxford.

His goal scoring isnt an issue as he would be tasked with winning the ball and laying it off to BTA or Sakamoto/EMC

Many on here were saying Wright, Simms and BTA were not up to it and wanted changes, now the same people are saying they are world beaters.
FL and Bamford know each other and FL knows, like Bidwell and Allen, older heads can have a massive impact on the training ground, and if Bamford even for a few weeks can help Simms with his confidence and the like it's well worth it.

I seem to remember Patto coming to Ryton as a favour to keep fit..... FL might want to see if he has still got something to offer and how he fits into the group....

People saying his lack of goals are the reason they'd say no, need to look at Simms' lack of goals. He can and will do that job of bullying defenders, holding the ball up, and just generally being busy. Id put money on it, the cross from Saka v Pompey that Simms spoons wide, that sort of chance falls to Bamford, he buries it. Also, unlike Simms he has 17 PL goals to his name.
Simms has really impressed me this season, but in all honesty, if its a job off the bench to come on and hold the ball up, be big and bully defenders, Bamford is the better of the 2. More experience, more games, more goals. Plus he's been promoted from this league so will be invaluable in the changing room alongside Woolf.

I just had in my mind Bamford was always more of a fox in the box, poacher sort of forward. Do we need another?

It's quite different if he's capable of playing out wide as more of an inside forward, but I don't remember that being his game.

Also, there's a possibility that we could lose BTA for a month due to the African cup of nations (so I've been told) If that's true another experienced striker would make sense as short term cover, and the lad uses the time to get fit and put himself in the shop window.

And if Frank fancies going 2 up front imagine having Wright or BTA playing off the best hold up target man in the championship. With Torp and Rudoni picking up the pieces!

Fuck it, let's get it done
