The Leeds fan who's currently doing up my kitchen just informed me, that his phone has informed him, that Banford has been seen at Ryton this morning.

I dont see it personally, his fitness will be miles behind and he'll be 4th choice behind Wright, Simms and BTA.

But the flip side, like with Woolf, it would be nice to have a decent player on the bench and some experience of a player thats been in a promotion squad around the squad.

Thoughts?

don’t mind it, but if it means we don’t sign a quality winger in January then i’m against it.

Would be more than happy if he was just here to train and keep some fitness. A good pro who's been around winning dressing rooms a lot in his career.

Good experienced player. Only 32 so not super old. Been of the boil with goals but could be great cover

No issue with a short term deal. He's always been good in championship

Although we need wingers more than strikers

Not sure he'd have the dynamism that we currently have / require in the team. Look at the stick Ellis gets/got for not being able to press aggressively. An unfit Bamford would be miles off that imo. Nothing against the guy's technical ability; just don't see him as adding anything to us.

Bamford can play anywhere across the forward line I believe.

Ya but I'd rather a winger like emc or saka rather than another jamie Peterson type

But I like bamford so happy to see how it plays out

Who needs scouts and coaches when you can ask chatgpt

Is Patrick Bamford still good at football

Short answer: yes and no — Bamford still has useful qualities, but his recent form, fitness and role have all declined significantly.

Here’s a fuller breakdown:

What the positives are

  • Bamford has proven in the past that he can perform at a high level. For example, during the 2020-21 season at Leeds United in the Premier League he scored 17 goals. StatMuse+2Wikipedia+2
  • He brings more than just goal-scoring: intelligent movement, pressing, ability to act as a focal point up front. One article noted that even in recent years, despite the decline in goals, his ability to occupy defenders and create space for others remains “arguably more present … than any other striker at the club”. Leeds United News
  • When fully fit, he still has the build and experience to contribute at a high level.

What the concerns are

  • Injuries: Bamford has had recurrent fitness issues which have prevented consistent high-level performance. Yorkshire Post+1
  • Form drop: In the 2024-25 season in the Championship, his output was very low. According to one source: 17 appearances, 0 goals, little to no starting games. FootyStats
  • Role at his club: His manager at Leeds, Daniel Farke, publicly stated that Bamford is not part of his plans for the upcoming season. FotMob+2Yorkshire Post+2
  • Finished product: Even when he’s come into games, the chance conversion and overall sharpness have been questioned. For instance:
“For all Bamford's faults … his movement off the ball, was fantastic … but the issue is he doesn’t finish enough chances.” Reddit
    And:
“His finishing have both been crap … under-performed.” Reddit

My verdict

Bamford can still be good — especially if you get the version of him that’s fit and confident. But right now:

  • He is not the reliable, high-output striker he once was.
  • He seems to be moving into a phase where he is more of a squad option, substitute, or brings value in specific scenarios (e.g., pressing, movement) rather than being the main goal-scorer.
  • Many signs suggest his best years (in terms of consistent output) are behind him.

He could sign until January on a short term contract.
And who knows, maybe Lats moves on in January, or Brau goes out on loan.
Plenty of options.

I don't see any incentive for either of the 2 parties for him to sign him for 2 months.

He gets to prove his fitness and we get a 3rd choice striker.

We dont know if anyone is carrying a knock, or maybe Bamford can pass on his experience to Simms (for example) in a player/coach position for a short term deal.

Or he could just be training to maintain fitness?
People ate trying to read far too much into a forum rumour.

Leave it to Frank to sort.

It could be one of those signings of a player for his experience and presence in the dressing room more than anything else, he's been promoted a couple of times after all.

Is he any better than Wright, BTA or Simms? Probably not. If the interest is genuine, it would indicate a possible injury concern with one of the three mentioned

If that's the case, can't see why anyone would be against it

If this is true (massive if as it came from football league World) it will be similar to the Patterson deal.: influence in training, seat on the bench, maybe come on for a few cameos and score an important late worldie off his shin.

Doesnt he live near Leeds so a bit of a commute for just some training and fitness

But I agree having him around the squad could be useful.

I'm sure he's decent enough but when we beat Leeds at home last year, the hour he put in up front is the worst performance by a striker I've seen and I'm including that time Yakubu couldn't physically leave the centre circle.

Given his form I would keep BTA playing wide/behind the striker. Makes sense then if we want a 3rd choice option. Currently if Wright or Simms got injured we’d have no striker on the bench.

Maybe he’s looking for a coaching role or something like that.

Where we’re we are at the minute, surely we’re not looking at players like that

Up until this rich vein of form, BTA had horrendous finishing, If his movement is is till there and intelligence, I think Lampard and Edwards have shown they can coax the finishing out of him. Bamford can easily be a good squad player for us, and good competition for Simms.

BTA is working well off the right at the moment, so i see no reason to push him up top

Last week he nearly signed for a club in laliga. But something went wrong last minute. Due to the manger.

So good to see our fans writing him off before he has even signed
