Ultimately if we still haven’t got anyone on the bench we trust to help change our shape or get us back in the game then we’ve not done enough in the transfer market this summer. This has been an issue for three seasons now.
Weve got the strongest bench weve had for years , lampard is spoilt with that bench .. fucking no excuses for his dire game management

Rushworth culpable for both goals.

Lots of opportunities to put this game out of sites

Questions should be asked why Lampard did not make changes earlier when clearly they were needed.

Grimes off day showed how much he normally does in protecting our full backs. Repeat of Oxford last season they just kept getting in behind the fullbacks.
But it's the 8 conceded all from set pieces that is poor - shouldn't concede that many in a whole season

I would get 2 new CB.Both gave stupid fouls away for the feee kicks. They do 2 or 3 stupid mistakes every game.Dont know if its lack of concentration but im fed up of stupid fouls or sloppy passes. It’s the same back four as last season which wasn’t good enough. Our defence will cost us as scoring goals doesn’t seem to be a problem!

Have we though? Saka maybe but who else would you trust to turn the game in our favour? Simms has never been an impact player, BTA maybe on a good day if Saka is starting. But when EMC and BTA aren’t having an impact we can only change one and we haven’t really got another goal threat.

Agree with have gaps like at Lw especially with both EMC and wright on the pitch but why bother putting Saka on for example on the 85th min

Don’t think it can really be an off day, just needed to be subbed on 60 mins rather than crucified on the pitch. Allen would have been a fine option for that period.

I dont see the point in spending £4m on KKH when he sits on the bench and watches MVE play that poor? What's the point in having 2 of the best RBs in the league, when 1 can't get any game time, even when the other plays as bad as that?

I think MVE has looked poor this season. How much of that has been down to having BTA in front of him not Saka I don't know, but KKH must be pissed just sat on the bench. I get having 2 good players for every position, I get squad rotation, but were not doing that. Just sticking with the same thing hoping it MIGHT produce something.

Oh come on mate , he could have put MVE high but kesler harden right , put sheaf in midfield for torp who was flagging and got saka on , simms on .

No excuses

Couldn’t agree more, you look at our bench and there’s hardly anyone on their (apart from Saka) that I think will turn a game around. It’s full of back-ups and like-for-likes rather than alternatives or game-changers. Obvs not every bench in this league is going to be full of game-changing players but there’s very little on our bench that excites me.

It’s a lot of minutes for Grimes this early in the season.

People who have never exercised before in their lives, let alone past the age of 30 will struggle to understand of course.

“it’s only been five games, they’re professional footballers for god sake” blah blah blah.
Agreed.

But why then play him for 90 in what's a fairly meaningless fixture in midweek?

It's baffling.

MvE pushed up maybe but feels like a fudge. Sheaf for Torp loses you so much going forwards when you need a goal. Ditto Simms for Wright. We needed to be able to freshen up the front three and maybe Torp with similar players not stuff RBs and DMs in there. He could have brought Brau on too but it’s another fudge and not someone you expect to really impact.

I'd agree, light in terms of game changers. You'd want a winger and a CF before deadline day really.

Pretty much sums a few things up.
1) We’re really open defensively.
2) We can score lots of goals
3) As good as he is on the ball Torp fades far too often. Just couldn’t get around the pitch enough.
4) We continue to be really weak at full back.

He’s been superb this season and not the main culprit in the second half today. Bit of a random target.

Bad game management mate , why not tighten us up and go 2 banks of 4 and wether the storm rather than stay wide open ?

We are protecting a lead but we threw it all away .. silly second half so poor from lampard

Should have been out of sight at half time, took foot off the gas, lost composure conceded poor goals as a result.

Whilst pissed off at the result, more annoyed at the apparent lack of using the bench, if they aren’t good enough to chuck on for 15/20mins to help change or see game off, then we’re struggling for depth regardless.

I’m in same boat as others, give it 10 games see where we are, that said our 4 games played have all been against teams currently in the bottom 8.

Frank at fault for that one! I could see the problem why couldn't he? As soon as they targeted JDS 2nd half he should have bought Bidwell or Brauh on and bought Saka on earlier. Grimes was fucked at 80 minutes and probably should have bought Sheaf to close up the middle .Oxford had quite a lot of players blocking off JDS EMC a Torp couldn't get runs going. As soon as Saka came on Oxford became unbalanced and the lines were open for us to break through. Wright should have buried that chance Saka laid on as well. And I will be glad when this bloody transfer window shuts as MEV head is not in the game.

I think he could have been played midweek, but only if he played less minutes with a plan for less minutes today as well. But essentially, I agree, I wouldn’t have played him at all.
