No, it’s because MVE has very little positional discipline. Good going forward. Poor defensively.

He was absolutely stranded by BTA and I’m not blaming him he is a striker not a right winger but many times BTA was even in the box so MVE was totally exposed at times so 100% not always his fault.

People never learn. Comments about Lampard being useless, the defence being shit, the subs are a waste of space, promotion is out of the window. The first half was as good as I’ve seen us for years. Last week we won by 6 goals. We’re in the top 5 after 4 games. Maybe we should just wait a bit longer before we make emotional statements about the state of things. We’re in a better position, as a club, than we have been for years. Enjoy it and accept that sometimes we’ll have a bad spell in a game. People sound like spoilt Arsenal fans demanding ‘signings’.

Hadn't read the thread, and I had to watch the replay due to other social commitments yesterday.

An entertaining game, we looked sharp. Seems two dumb fouls led to goals from free kicks for them. Who mentioned to the press that they would easily sort out their free kick defenses during mid week??

Torp's goal was wow.

Their second was also impressive. I'd hafta watch the highlights again, but I recall the kicker moving the ball about a foot to the right before curling it around the wall to the near post. Oh well.

I'm confident for the start of the season.

Glad to see Saka getting a few minutes. Cannot wait for him back in action.

It was a frustrating draw.

First half, in my view, we were better yesterday than v QPR. We moved the ball with such confidence and everything was slick only to be pegged back by an avoidable goal.

Second half, we lost control and struggled to settle in.

I’ve said once and won’t be the last time… Our depth is problem. We don’t have good personnel to come on and change games from the bench. Ideally, you’d want to change both wingers, a creative CM/AM and a striker if you need to turn a game around. Haji played well but BTA and EMC dropped off in the second half.

Sakamoto had a bright cameo but wouldn’t blame Lampard for leaving that sub till late if it risked an injury to him.

Agree with this. Yesterday was crying out for a different 8 and set of wingers and all we had was Sheaf and Allen and Sakamoto and Rapha and Saka aside you’re not confident any will impact a game going forwards. Even just one more AM/winger type on loan would give us so much more in terms of options during a game.

Well it won't be done on Monday, Grimes said in his interview after the game, they have a few days off because of the international break.

I need to rewatch the goals, particularly the 2nd but gut feeling is that Rushworth is getting blamed harshly.

For the first goal, perhaps could’ve parried it differently. That said, the ball did swerve a bit.

The coaches need to sort out the players on the freekick situation cos that is 2 games now where the taker has moved the ball to create an advantage! If a player close on hand sees it they should move in and close the space down which will make the Referee stop the kick.

Second goal the wall was badly set up from the start. Oggy mentioned it straight away. Rushworth sort of gave a half arsed attempt to get them to move but clearly didn’t shout loud enough as the didn’t and he just gave up.

Think if we beat Norwich it’s been a good start points wise, football has been scintillating at times, but 8pts from 4 against the bottom 6 is a bit meh tbh.

I take your point, but at the end of last season we were bemoaning our inability to get anything from the teams at the bottom (Derby, Plymouth, Luton).

We're pretty much at full strength though and with a near full bench. That makes an enormous difference.

For QPR we were missing Dovin, Lati, Sheaf, Tats and Eccles.

It's not nearly the same as having to name three keepers to fill the bench and that's after the nippers are already in there.

Of those Dovin's been replaced (sort of) and only Tats was probably a first choice starter.

Yeah 1st goal there was a hole in the wall and he could hit it as hard as he wanted. And also a poor foul to give away in the first place by Bobby Thomas. 2nd goal Bobby Thomas turned his back and jumped sidewards. I do think Rushworth and the wall should have done a bit more to delay the free kick in order to set the wall up again after Brannagan had moved the ball. Maybe someone from the wall step out and stand over the ball till we've readjusted.

So we broke the league record for the amount of goals scored in the first 4 games of a season. Anyone know how many the record is for 5 games and how many against Norwich we need to score to break that too?

Whisper: they aren't real records, you need to do a deep dive! If we average 2 a game we'll be threatening Leeds total from last season. The record goals totals in the whole EFL haven't been matched since the 60s but you'd need 3 a game so we're on target

I agree with you. And we're unbeaten.

That said, if you look at the table, the teams we're unbeaten against are all in the bottom 1/3 of the table. I think it's going to be a very open league this season if it carries on the way it has - arguably our best chance of promotion in years.

I would've liked more bodies through the door to add some depth but FL an DK aren't stupid.

Oh, and we bought the stadium. It's been a decent summer for Cov.

The first goal was poor from Rushworth. Yes it was hit well and yes it bounced in front of him, but he missed it with his hands and it bounced off his chest.

Yep shouldn’t have led to a goal
Wall could have been better
Keeper could have done better
Defence and defenders could have reacted quicker

I was wondering where to put this but when wondering who Woolfenden would come in for and if Frank would do it soon, for me if you are going on form there is a strong case to put him in. I say this as A. a Bobby Thomas fan, and B. someone who thinks you can't blame all goals, particularly set piece goals, which they all have been, on just the defence.
Just for arguments sake though, if you were to stick an individual blame on all of our conceded goals, here were my thoughts and it doesn't make great reading for Bobby.
Derby (A)
Goal 1: Good free kick, could Rushworth have done better? Maybe.
Goal 2: Thomas with a needless hands up conceding the pen.
Goal 3: Awful header out from Thomas, straight into the danger zone, Derby player puts it away easily.

QPR (H)
Goal 1: Pretty poorly defended generally but Rushworth comes and goes, on him more than anyone.

Oxford (A)
Goal 1: Stupid freekick given away by Thomas, he has a habit of this. Don't really blame Rushworth and rebound could have gone anywhere, just one of them.
Goal 2: It looked like Rushworth should have done better with the wall but we've since seen screenshots of Thomas basically moving out the way, allowing the ball past him and into the net.

Now as i said this isn't a witch hunt, i like Thomas, but he has his fingerprints on a lot of the goals conceded above and i can easily see an argument for getting the Woolf in the team asap. Kitching has been pretty faultless really and has started the season the better of the 2.

I think it's a tough decision isn't it, although I agree that Thomas hasn't started too well. He is very strong in the air in the box and we have suffered when he's been missing in the past.

Last 3 games (Derby, QPR & Oxford). Don't think I've seen a City team look better going forward. Really technical, and dangerous from all angles, Rudoni, Wright, EMC, Torp etc etc.
I think we have been slightly unlucky at the back. Derby's first 2 goals shouldn't have stood, QPR player dived for their free kick which led to the goal, and the first foul given against Bobby at Oxford.
