Probably been asked before, if so apologies in advance but I've not seen it ...

Why do we have an elephant as part of our badge?

I understand the three spires, the ball and the phoenixes, all make perfect sense, but no reasoning for the elephant.

Was it originally a horse for Lady Godiva that somehow evolved or was misinterpreted? Is it supposed be the Elephant and castle (as the three spires are often referred or drawn as a castle), I have no idea. The swimming baths also referred to as the elephant but presumably our emblem pre-dated that construction.

Thanks!

I always presumed it represented strength.

I think our badge is the best out of all the clubs.

Not just because I'm a Cov fan, but the detail and variety in it makes it stand out from the rest IMO.

I like how Kilmarnock took our badge and replaced the elephant, griffin and phoenix with some squirrels and a good fingering
