1970. They were champions at the time. I've read somewhere Catterick said it was the sort of thing you'd expect to find in a circus not on a football pitch and wasn't a happy bunny! Won the first ever MOTD goal of the season competition though. After that it was outlawed and the ball then had to travel it's circumference before another player touched it.

Edit: My Dad just said to me that the first time he saw them try it was at Blackpool (possibly pre season?) and he remembers them nearly taking out the top of the tower!

i think it was initially outlawed for the taker touching the ball twice (both feet) . They then adapted it to a single foot flick up - thats when they used the full circumference rules against us
