Was that Spin-A-Disc? The only one I remember in the Lower Precinct.

Spin-a-disc was great. I liked the one in Far Gosford Street too.

Not too long ago, about 10 years, there was a cool record shop in Cathedral Lanes called Ray Gun Records. Didn't last too long though!

Loads of pictures of Jill Hansons but anyone remember Fennells who were in the Lower Precinct. Before that they were in Spon Street for many years. We used to live at the back of the shop as kids and my Mum worked at Fennells for many years, right up
to when the Lower Precinct shop closed down - went out of business, couldn't compete with the big boys.

Sorry, only just noticed TheSnoz's post about Fennells, already.

My brother's shop! We ran it together for years!

We're you there in 88/89? If so, thanks for selling me a mint/unplayed copy of the Beatles Hey Jude export LP - Dark Apple label CPCS 106 for £3.95. It was worth £600 in rare records price guide approx 2007. I still haven't played it.

That's where I bought Fear of Music. Played it the other day, still got the Hits and Misses price label on the sleeve.

I might only be 35, but I remember most of these places - Hits and Misses on Gosford Street is probably the one I've heard most about, from my step-dad who Houchen's Head might know. Heard of Paul Smart, pal?

Some of you over the age of 50 probably know him, too.

I don't remember clothes being sold, when are those pics from? Dread to the how much money I spent in there. Shame you don't get shops like that any more. My Saturday routine would be bus into town and a trip round all the record stores, lunch from Fishy Moores then up to Hits n Misses.

For many years we sold clothes upstairs in The Magic Mushroom, owned by us but ran as a separate business. Around 1990ish, we turned upstairs into living accommodation and brought Magic Mushroom down to be integrated with Hits & Misses. A lot of people used to wonder why it was painted out in red and yellow stripes. Well, the reason was that my brother had a villa in Spain and loved the Spanish people. Hence the colours!

Sorry mechaishida. The name doesn't ring any bells. Our kid might know the name though.

No mention of Bangin Tunes?

When I saw this thread i thought " I bet Bang In Tunes don't get a mention" so good on you! The Acid House, Rave, Dance scene was my absolute passion but It was so hard to get the latest vinyl, even the Indy / alternative record shops didn't stock it (when they did it was months out of date).

So when B.I.T opened (I know it was mostly a platform to sell tickets) but for me, It was amazing to be able to go in a shop, listen to the latest tracks, order records and talk to other people who loved the same music as me.

I was just too young for the rave scene in terms of actually going but my brother and all his mates were well into it so grew up listening to mix tapes and collecting flyers from Bang In Tunes and Kong and the like and watching the Hitman and Her at the Eclipse and the "Book of Love" on video. Then progressed onto a few outdoor random gwt togethers and going to the likes of Passion etc.

The Empire's having an Eclipse reunion night in December which a few of my lot are going to and loads went to the night over in Brum the other month. Reckon it would take me about a week to recover from a night like that nowadays. ;)
