The Quatermass Experiment was in 1953, probably get it on DVD, but might be the film version rather than the TV series.

Nigel Kneale wrote some great stuff.

That's the year I was born!! Funnily enough, my young grandson asked me once, "Grandad. What was it like to live in black & white?" He thought there was no colour in the "old" days!
