What's with La Liga's billion Euro release clauses?

Pretty interesting read.

Essentially Spanish clubs have to insert such clauses as a part of player welfare rules of the country. But to get around it they make the clauses massive.

And in France it’s the complete opposite I think, release clauses are prohibited

Yeah, as the law allows players to buy out their own contracts.

We made the clause and then told several clubs about it both Blackburn and Villa bring two of them

Is this another of your “pay day” loan theories?

Is this true, I thought someone close to Dublin himself let the Clause be known to Villa, hence them coming in with a bid slightly over the set amount.
Blackburn offered more than £1million over the amount needed to trigger the clause in his contract, why would they do that if privy to the terms of his contract.

That's my understanding too. I think it was £6.5m and £6m and his agent told Villa. In John Gregory's book he jokes they spent 99p more than they needed to.

I'm not sure, but I do know Villa did better out of Dion than we did out of that tool. About 15 goals including 6 pens and a hattrick at relegated Crewe then sold him back for £2.5m. BEst of it is when he scored against Stockport on the opening day, I said who needs Hartson, this lad will fire us straight back to the Prem!

Indeed...a smug Richardson and Strachan mentioned that fact during a news conference.
Cant find the video clip, but this article mentions it.

Taking away the personal issues(!) we used him terribly that year. We bought a poacher in the box, and had him pulling wide, working the ball, and half the time crossing the ball into the box for nobody, as he was the one out wide.

Of course the even more stupid act was we already had Aloisi, who could have filled that role at a fraction of the cost, and equally had a proven track record at that level.

Looking back it was madness. Aloisi would have got us plenty of goals. Even Zuniga looked like he could have done something at that level. Hughes money (money on him) was wasted.

If Strachan had played Aloisi and possibly Zuniga more the season before we might not even have been relegated.

I saw him driving to training this morning.

He needs that move to Burnley to get a nice payrise as we're obviously not paying him enough because that was not the car of a flashy young footballer!

Kante at Chelsea only drives a mini, obviously some footballers are not fussed about a flashy motor?

I think they will be back for him. Cornet and McNeil look to be on their way out so they will need replacing and they will have a lot of money to do it. Telegraph and some of our fans going to look pretty silly if he does go there.

I think the Telegraph dropped themselves in it by saying "he's staying".

Unless (and let’s hope) negotiations reached a firm end and are unlikely to be restarted

They might open their cheque book, but with all the cash at their disposal we should hold out for as much as we can. By the same token., if we win our first 3, why would COH want to leave?

If O’Hare is their top target, then I think they will come back in and pay the asking price.
