I don't understand you grendel , one minute you talk about the basket case of a club , having to sell players to survive .. to then hating on the people that have to work under these horrible conditions all whilst maintaining a respectable league position in a tough league.

You're an oddball my friend

No one has to work under any conditions and as I say Boddy has a very dubious history and engages in building a new ground nonsense

I mean the individuals. Boddy doesn’t have to lie about great owner support, the Brentford model, 365 revenues, financial prudence, other clubs like stoke are far worse. A certain mr Johnson is lambasted for lying to his public - he should become our CEO he could tell tall tales all day long and have no recriminations - just good PR, enthusiasm and a jolly face

Sisu can operate in league 1 and league 2

The model does not work in the championship - who says so - a certain Timothy Fisher

Did we? The last set of accounts were for the previous season, I doubt there was much residual income last season.

Two mid-table Championship finishes.
Sold nobody of note for 2-3 seasons. Two £1 million+ signings in last 2 summers. Rising attendances. No parachute payments or sugar daddy. Losses far below other clubs in this league with wholly unsustainable models.

Seems the club is being run rather well all things considered.

Boddy said words to that effect last week when he met the Leamington lot.
His actual words were closer to what Sky Blue Jay said, 'if the price is right, we will sell'.

Don't think that's really jaw dropping news to anyone, it's what gets reinvested which is the main cause of speculation.

I think SISU have enough acumen now to start being sensible.

Would they sell O’Hare for a million? Obviously not.

£100m - of course and we’d be encouraging the sale.

The figure in between is the onion. Most of us would be satisfied with £20m (unrealistic) and pied off with £5m.

I do think SISU have the gumption now to know that we can hold out for a big figure. We aren’t under pressure from any banks that I can see or FFP issues. No players seem to be wanting to force their way out the door and as a club that’s a great position to be in.

So what to do?

This is again, like any business risk a matter of financial forecasting.

One important factor is that in my observation (based on nothing other than subconscious hindsight) transfer fees are inflated in January when Champ clubs need to either push on because they have a chance of the jackpot or lower Prem clubs need to spend big to try to keep their status.

So:

If we take a little risk now and keep with the slight overspending (if it is indeed accurate that our wage costs exceed income) then we might be a bit more in debt by January but I believe that that debt would be balanced by a higher attainable fee for various players.

Alternatively, we might be up and around it and gate receipts and TV money might offset those costs.

SISU should hold their nerve.

Last summer the club's turnover would've been boosted significantly by the Ricoh return which I'd imagine would've acted as a stopgap and mitigated any need for player sales.

Sponsorship increased (many businesses distanced themselves from the club while we were at St Andrews), the club posted ST numbers which hadn't been seen since 69/70 and achieved a top 7 average attendance for the season, then there's also increases in F&B, merchandise sales, parking etc as well.

We are hearing rumors of no money will not be available to MR, but im starting to think that this is from a player budget meeting. And maybe that the wages out can be reinvested back in, which is where this non investment is coming from.

I would hope and now think they must of been a separate conversation regarding the 3. If any are sold, due to an agreed valuation met between Joy and MR a percentage would then be made available for him to replace.

I think MR is to crafty not to be up to his nuts in this, and the longer this goes on. The more i think MR is really holding a strong hand in this process. Which means, the price is right for him and the club, not solely right for the owners. And if thats the case its a good thing for the fans.

The no reinvestment thing doesn't make any sense. We've got a recent history of spending a relatively small amount and getting potentially huge returns on that outlay (even taking wages into consideration), why would you cease doing the very thing that makes money.

I could believe that we won't reinvest this summer. If we were unsure which player was leaving, and for how much, it's probably quite challenging to find the right player - if they were even available this summer.

Also every other club knows we'll have money in our pocket, so therefore it's probably wise to publicly and even internally state that the money won't be reinvested.

Yes, it's ludicrous to think that zero of any received transfer fees would be reinvested. The club has a budget - anything over and above that is un-budgeted...and can therefore be allocated to servicing debt or investment, or both. I don't see a scenario where both Robins and Viveash game plan out scenarios where we receive fees for any of the big three and are told that zero goes towards the team....and then sign new contracts!

The rumours are made up by fans. Ludicrous to think Robins won’t get some monies from any big player sale to reinvest.

SBB hinted we’d be more active in January but the wages would be freed up this summer, given what he usually provides id imagine he’s spot on.

i’ve said before, with that in mind I think the plan is to nurse through to the winter break/World Cup with the squad we’ve got and go from there.

that Being said, the Sibley rumours are pretty loud, so maybe we’ve already priced him up

I mean he’s not wrong, we’ve been successful in the last 5 years in spite of them, not because of them.

I mean I’ve cut them slack over the years, but ultimately, they’re not to be trusted.

fisher did once say our model isn’t feasible in the championship. Eventually it’s going to go tits up - and they know it will

We have one of the best managers outside of the premiership, along with a brilliant coach in Adi Viveash. Even in the worst scenario that the Big 3 were all sold, and no money was available for Robins apart from a loan, I would still back us to stay up comfortably next season.

I don’t disagree, and that’s kind of my point - Robins and Vivaesh have worked miracles with a style of play that’s easy on the eye. I back us to stay up easily.

We talk of the Brentford model but they sell players then spend 10m on Ivan Toney.

we’re likely to sell O’Hare for 9m, give Robins 500k at most and say “good luck with that Mark”

I don't particularly mind Boddy. But in order to maximise our commercial revenue - which really is vital due to how the club operates/zero help from SISU - we probably could do with someone better at the helm.

The club is pretty unimaginative with its commercial strategy/finding alternative ways to raise income and it showed last season.

Seemingly the age old excuse has been a lack of staff, but as a Championship club I'm afraid that doesn't really wash with me anymore.

But surely irrelevant if we're buying a young, high-potential player that would be classed as an asset? You'd invest/continue to borrow to one day make the return. I concede that's not easy and comes with risk, but if you say the big 3 will pull in £25-30m in fees then surely that is the only road to take?

If anything the burden is having to supplement riskier, investment type signings with proven championship-quality experience, e.g. Palmer, Bidwell. That's the part you'd stop doing..
