Assistant manager Richard Shaw and first team coach Lee Carsley will take temporary charge of team affairs.

Chief executive Tim Fisher said: “We have not taken this decision lightly. We recognised that last season there were off-the-field matters that affected team affairs and felt it was right and proper to give Andy the chance to put that right over the course of the summer and the start of the season.

“We do not feel that has happened. Of course, the fact that we have surrendered the lead in the first three league games has not helped but there are several other factors in this decision – not just three disappointing results.

“Richard and Lee will take charge of first team affairs and we feel that will give us time to ensure we appoint a manager to help us mount a serious challenge for promotion.

“We would like to put on record our thanks to Andy for his work in current and previous roles at the club.”

Development director Steve Waggott added: “We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to assemble a squad to support Andy that is capable of pushing for promotion this season.

“There is no doubting the ability in the squad – you saw that in the first half against Bury and in much of the second half against Sheffield United.

“It’s vital now that we all pull together as a club and ensure that we start to win matches in the next few weeks.”

Seems pretty transparent to me! He weren't doing the business after he was backed to build his own team. He had no more excuses to hide behind anymore.

Seriously though, they couldn't have said more than that, could they? I'd love to know what the other factors were. I guess we'll never know until the James McPake/Bigi autobiography comes out in 10-20 years!

So they've discounted last season and said that the 3 games so far weren't the deciding factor either...

What were the other factors then????

This really could be a case of careful what you wish for. If we end up paying over the odds for yet another clown, then we are just digging ourselves further into football abyss.

What a dreadful decision by the idiots running the club. Andy Thorn has being doing as good a job as anyone could have expected in the circumstances at Coventry. Last season , the best players like Westwood and Gunnarson had come to end of contracts and were not going to stay at a struggling club and the only goalscorer of any note was sold mid season. He was given no money to replace them and only had the option of playing academy lads. Relegation was inevitable but depite this the side tried to play football and were far better than anything produced under Addy Hoofroyd a so called talented young manager! Following relegation several of the better more experienced players chose to leave. The Board gave Andy Thorn the chance to bring in his own players albeit still on a shoe string. Remember Thorn brought the likes of Fox and Dann into the City. So why let him do this then sack him after 3 games in which we have taken the lead in every game. Ok we havent gone on to win them but why hit the panic button again. 11 managers in 11 years is pathetic. We need stability and to develop a young side. The sacking of Chris Coleman was a poor decision but this is just appalling. I feel like sending my season ticket back but no doubt I'll be there at the next game.

Did you see the football played under coleman? It was mind numbingly boring and his sacking was justified. Thorn may of bought those players to the club in a SCOUTING role but his manager stats dont lie, and after surrendering the lead for 3 games in a row and being out thought by his opposite number yesterday it is hopefully going to be one of the best decisions this club has ever made.......

Careful. There are a few things in there that'll get a rise from some on here.

You're right though. This was AT's first season with anything close to a fair crack of the whip. Pressing the panic button is exactly what they've done. They got us relegated and now they're panicking.

I think an experienced manager may have made a better fist of keeping us up because we were right in with a shout then we don't turn up at forest and Bristol city and lose our remaining home games, that to me Is bad man management. He couldn't get them motivated when it mattered and his tactical no how was non existent.
This season we have drawn three games from winning positions, yesterday was awful in the second half.
How anyone can say its a bad decision is beyond me, do we not want to win games and be successful? Because under thorn it's proven that this will not happen.

You're right there, Dann and Fox weren't brought in by Thorn.

Rather the panic button early on, than keeping a finger pressed hard on the complacency button.
