Think we’re gonna see a few more ins and outs before kick off

If we are pointing to individual errors last year (irrespective of the number of games played), I’d argue that Burge took that accolade hands down. Neither are good enough for a number 1 position in league 1 if we are serious about promotion.

Burge was given the accolade but dropped it. Butter fingers.

Any incoming keeper has to be better than what we have. Shouldn’t be hard

I do hope it’s an experienced keeper though. Something we’ve been missing imo

O'Brien is nowhere near good enough. Burge is miles better.

O'Brien made as many errors in the few games he played as Burge did all season.

MR has said that he will look for a new keeper rather than promote Addai to number 2.

I’m not a Burge knocker infact I thought he improved quiet significantly at the back end of last season but if O’Brien goes and we bring in another imo he has to be better otherwise promote Addai after all he is coming up 21 older than both Jim Blythe and Les Sealey when they came into the team and kept their places, in the top division too.

Colin Doyle in my opinion would fit the bill. Been here before and knows L1 inside out. It’s fair to say Burge improved last season but one of his cock ups is always around the corner. Last Saturday anyone?.......

Ah that would have never have happened in a proper match, it was a preseason friendly in a heatwave-and the passback was shocking. Incidentally, Doyle has about 30 league appearances more than Burge despite being 33, he's been a reserve for most of his career.

Colin Doyle is no better than Burge, signing goalkeepers is the trickiest transfers of the lot and probably the most expensive. There were a few I seen last year who looked okay but that was only one match, to be honest have i no idea who I’d go after.

I just hope that if I keep my dislike of Burge (not as a person, I just don’t think he’s our answer for L1) that he will be his seasons player to prove me wrong! Worked alright for Doyle last year

I didn’t rate Pickford much until I seen him play on the biggest stage and what a tournament he’s having!!

Having seen some of the World's best goalies in the World Cup and Champions League make some serious errors, I think Burger is developing into potentially a good goalie, we need to support him and accept errors occur, as difficult as that is let's start to believe in him.

Can agree with that. He should be playing behind a good defence, a good team for that matter. He’s been between the sticks for over 3 years dodgy to say the least at first but hopefully he has rode that out now let’s see how he fares

He'd certainly be good competition for Burge and help in his development. But could we afford his wages?

A keeper of Westwood's quality could easily find himself another Championship club so it'd be highly unlikely he'd make the drop. Plus his wages would make our wage cap look like pocket money

Competition? Burge wouldn't get a look in if Westwood was here

I think they are trying to get their wage bill down, one of them was Jordan Rhodes who they have sent out on Loan to Norwich.

You are quite right, Tom. It would have been better if I had said that Burge would have an incentive to improve and learn when Westwood is handed the jersey as soon as he walked in.

So if Westwood is or was as good as people think why is he being released by a Championship team?

Good competition for Burge?! He doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Westwood, let alone stand any chance of playing ahead of him. Westwood was one of the best keepers this club has ever seen.

Do you not remember when he was here? He was incredible week in, week out. Flawless in fact.

Maybe because they're being put under pressure to cut costs? Westwood is on serious money there and given that he's 33, his performance levels are likely to soon drop, so bringing in a cheaper/younger replacement is probably the more logical thing to do from a financial point of view rather than extend his contract.

I agree with you about him being better than Burge. There were a lot better goalkeepers than Westwood over the years.

Kirkland, oggy, Headman, Glazier. And even though I hated him, les Sealey.

But Westwood certainly one of the best goalkeeper since we were relegated from the Premier League

Westwood was class if it wasn't for the injuries he keeps picking up I think he could have played week in week out in the premier league

I agree with this. The Burge hate on this forum is very weird, he improved so much last season, won awards and for L2 (last season) and L1 (this season), I don't see a no.1 goalkeeper as an area of concern or one that needs strengthening.

..... unless Westwood fancies a return and dropping down the leagues.
