never fetching £5 million - he’s ok at this level but he’s not a stand out in this league

I understand both will leave eventually bit we need to be in a position to demand top money for both of them.

Then we can reinvest a fair sum into the squad and progress. That’s how you become a decent club at this level.

Who offer £5 million and you honestly think we wouldn’t take it?

A lot of people definitely said that. Probably because they were pissed off Maddison was sold and not so great second half of the season, but it was clear to see he was a very special talent and miles ahead of the likes of Stevenson and Bayliss.

good or we’d be bust. I think it’s fairly common knowledge he was frogmarched to Norwich to sign the deal ahead of other bigger clubs whose deal was less attractive

True, they had a deal lined up with Spurs the season before. No wonder he was Joy’s “favourite player”

Don't be ridiculous. We sold an 18 year old largely unproven player for what turned out to be about 8 million and we were a third tier team.

For every maddison there's a ben stevenson or a bayliss (and many said these guys were going to be better players). He could've went the way of stevenson and then we would've been laughing at 3m in the bank up front.

It was a good bit of business at the time and it was necessary for the survival of our club. Hindsight is 20:20

Maddison was light-years ahead of Stevenson and Bayliss. It was pretty well known from his years in the academy that he was far better than anything we have produced. As a result he now plays in a top 6 Premier League side who have just won the FA Cup.

He’s not one of the best players in the Premier League. Premier League and international potential here sure. I think we did pretty well out of it, must be close to £5-6m which relative to the level we were was money other clubs wouldn’t have access to and helped us get promoted.

He's not top 10 but he's in the top 50.

He must be the most successful Coventry academy graduate already?

You cant compare history. Reg Matthews was a world record signing as a goalkeeper and the first Coventry born player capped by England

We did very well out of Maddison anD ultimately it saved the club

Maybe not but Maddison has won the FA Cup and is playing in the Europa League this season.

Personally think leaving Leicester is vital for him and the only way he'll make his way into the England team.

Why? That’s only down to the ‘big 6’ bias. They were in the top 4 for most of the last 2 seasons, he’s better off staying at Leicester than going to a club like Arsenal who are now essentially a mid-table team.

I'm not sure we did. Let's remember he had to go on loan to Aberdeen before he was ready for the Championship. The add ons since have accumulated to quite a decent sum I'd think.

Realistically we got them both for this year. And this year only.
In whatever scenario:
1) We get relegated they leave.
2) If we have a cracking season they will be at the heart of it they will leave.
3) They don't sign a new contract they will be sold a year left.
4) They sign a new contract...they will still leave.

There is no loyalty in football.

They are both around 23 years of age.

They both got 2 big contracts ahead of them in their careers. Which will no doubt be x times current salary.

Enjoy them whilst we got them. And your right we get the right money for them it should improve the squad as a whole..and even the infrastructure etc at the club.

Everyone at the club and in the academy were clear with how much better he was than anything we've produced before.

Because the position he plays puts him up against 3 of the best attacking midfielders on the planet. One of them has just won the Champions League, one has just won the Premier League and the other has just gone for £100m. Maddison is up against it. Ideally he'd have gone to a United or Chelsea but that obviously won't happen.

Leicester had a great season, yet Barnes and Maddison were nowhere near the England squad despite doing well themselves.

By his standards he had a poor season. If he'd continued to progress it would have been close between him and Grealish, who happened to have a great season.

Injury was the big issue really. 6/7 years ago he'd have walked into the England team.

I think Maddison would be at Arsenal now if there wasn’t this lingering doubt about manager Arteta, I suspect this is his last weekend as manager any defeat by Chelsea will kill him off.
His replacement is probably already lined up who will have almost a fortnight to get players in.
Should Maddison stay at Leicester? better team than Arsenal at the moment for sure but the name Arsenal a big attraction.

When discussing player prices , we have to factor in over excitable fans tax in the predictions.

But we also have to factor in @SlowerThanPlatt and @Grendel Miserable tax when they predict so low .

So a happy inbetween whatever people think is probably right .

Doesn’t really matter what we get little will be given to Robins to bring in a replacement and the normal sisu tactic of a last minute deal leaving little or no time to bring someone in is the likely scenerio.

To a point I agree with what you are saying. But I think he's technique is better than average. He also has good vision for forward passing. I think he has the capability of moving well beyond the level he is currently at.

people on here have very inflated views on the transfer value of players

Dabo and Hamer have both been rated at £10 million and now O Hare at £20 million

They have attracted to my knowledge no offers at all and if they were attracting bids at even 50% of these they’d be long gone

Agree. Those values are well above at the moment. But I think Hamer in particular has that "something special". It's been a while since we've seen that kind of thing in a City shirt, so I guess we can forgive people getting carried away a little (I know I have at times). If O'Hare can improve his final pass/ shooting, then I do think he would be snapped up. But right now, that is what is holding him back. But as others have said, if they were the finished article, they wouldn't be playing here! But we can all dream of the pay day that could come. If they realise the potential they have...
