No additional trialists tonight (1 Viewer)

It says in the CT that TM won't be playing additional trialists because the players he has on trial may command a fee. That means 2 good things. 1) That the quality of the players is quite high i.e. they've been playing for premier clubs. 2) He is looking.
I really like the fact he isn't rushing and bringing in people just to please the fans. Tonight he could have played these trialists just to make the fans happy, but he isn't.

The only trialist playing is Lamieras, the two he wanted to take a look at tonight are no longer playing because they would require compensation for being under 24 apparently.

Yes just stating that we don't have money to pay money for players that's all. Nothing we didn't know.

I know we signed vincelot but that fee wasn't too high by all accounts and he is an established league 1 player where as these kids aren't and it's a gamble and with money mowbray hasn't got to burn.

On a side note I hope he brings in 2 quality strikers soon. A Pace man and a target man would be great. Thanks Tony

I was hoping to but,.........

This seems be the start of every quote from TM.Is he being very picky or is he having trouble getting players to come to Coventry.[Or is Joy still keeping her hand bag shut.QUOTE=simonregis;938391]It says in the CT that TM won't be playing additional trialists because the players he has on trial may command a fee. He says;

"Mowbray, meanwhile, has shelved plans to take a look at two new triallists tonight, explaining: “We had two lined up but for whatever reason they are not going to come now.

“Sometimes the way it works with players who are under 24 that there’s the potential to have to pay compensation to previous clubs and we’re not in a position to pay clubs money for people they don’t want any more, or are letting go.

“They were young players we were going to give opportunities to but we’ve decided not to go down that route because if we go down that route and they do particularly well and then we find out they cost a few hundred thousand pounds in compensation it’s no good for us.”

Looks like the budget is now only available for wages perhaps (even though the other day he said the budget is a budget and not necessarily for wages / transfer fees. Presume he still has remit to pay for free agents who don't come with a compensation tag?)

Another interview where TM sounds frustrated to me. Sounds like he had lined something up to be told by the powers that be there is effectively no point as we wouldnt be able to afford them.

He has got a point... if a club is going to release them, then paying a fee unless you are 100% sure on them is pointless. I do wonder also if he is implying that the club previously wasted amounts of money in this way, which took away from his playing budget.

Isn't he saying that we need to pay fees if they have been released or come from other clubs and they are under a certain age? Or is it just for loans?

I guess he has played for a team since Spurs though so could get round it!

Would we need to pay Spurs for [h=1]Ruben Lamerias?[/h]

No, as he signed for the Swedish side in March 2015.

Not sure what's happened to his contract there though unless it was just an 'end of the season' jobby. And I assume they wouldn't qualify for compensation as he's moving outside of their country (like we wouldn't have got a penny if Christie managed to get that waste of a career move to America :D)

I don't believe that TM didn't know the situation when he signed but i'm just starting to wonder if its sinking in about how hard it is to recruit with what he has been given and asked for... Loans will play a massive part in this season and with that in mind he is showing patience as he knows higher level teams will know who is going to play apart in game day squads for a week or so yet..

He made a comment about not over hauling the sqaud every year but i think he knows that loans instead of perms have to be the way forward until progression is made on and off the field.. Starting to get frustrated not sure,, started to understand the difficulty is the job he has taken on,, i think so,, time will tell if he suceeds, lasts or fails whatever the outcome i think with TM we are in for some interesting interviews...

I think the issue is that signing these young players is a bit of a gamble as if you can't come to an agreement with the club on a compensation fee then it goes down to a tribunal. These youngsters then end up costing a lot more than you'd expected. It's different to going to Sunderland and agreeing to sign Adams, or the £25k we paid for vincelot.

He's a few examples...

http://mobile.football-league.co.uk/news/article/pfcc-tribunal-decisions-1866314.aspx

So I wouldn't see this as there is no money to be used for transfers just that gambling on compensation levels/tribunal is too much of a gamble.

I presume we've already spoken to their clubs to ascertain what level of compensation they will want, and it's above what we're willing/able to pay.

Sooner or later TM will have to gamble you cant wait around forever, if you are not sure on players then waiting for the right move for the club, might not be the right move for the player.. Its very risky running without enough bodies and storing money,, this sqaud needs goals placed in it, we dont have a Wilson waiting to walk in or have the money to buy a top level player who would easily bang in goals in L1. It will get to a point when TM has no option with regards to what boxes that player ticks,, i was worried about the german he tried to sign he fitted a budget more than was going to smash plenty of goals in..

Most must be a tad worried by now,, but still time and im sure TM has his plan in place and is waiting to gamble on the closest player he finds to match the quality he wants..
