I asked.m Chat GPT what our team should be following promotion to the PL. Some interesting thoughts…

🔵 Coventry City – Projected Premier League XI

🧤 Goalkeeper

  • Stefan Ortega (free / low fee option)
👉 Reliable, experienced, won’t cost huge wages compared to top-tier keepers

🛡️ Defence

RB: Milan van Ewijk

👉 Already one of their best players — pace translates well to the Premier League

CB: Bobby Thomas

👉 Physical, improving — likely kept

CB: Ross Sykes (or similar signing)

👉 Cheap, solid, aerial presence

LB: Jake Bidwell

👉 Experience > flair — typical survival full-back

⚙️ Midfield

CM: Ben Sheaf

👉 Captain-type, keeps structure

CM: Dan Neil (Dan Neil)

👉 Energy, pressing, big upgrade in midfield

CAM: Ross Barkley (Ross Barkley)

👉 The “Premier League brain” — carries the ball, draws fouls

⚡ Attack

RW: Loan from Chelsea F.C. (e.g. Tyrique George-type)

👉 Pace + unpredictability

LW: Haji Wright

👉 Already proven at a higher level

ST: Ellis Simms

👉 Physical striker — suits survival football

More excited for the flair of Jake Bidwell to hit the PL

Do any teams use a back three in the PL these days? A bit of googling suggests only teams that have gone down in recent years.

Leeds & Palace are the examples outside the bottom 3. Brentford & Brighton have shifted to a back 4 now but spent their first 2 seasons playing a back 5 while they improved their squads.

If we sign a whole new defence & midfield to protect them like Sunderland we may be able to make a back 4 work but we're not gonna do that.

Leeds are probably the best example. Started in a back 4 this season before losing 4 in a row, conceding 11, and dropping into the relegation zone. Farke shifted to a back 5 and now they're gonna stay up

Definitely needs 2 or 3 CB signing if we’re going to do that. And probably 2 CMs as well. And probably an extra striker. Does save on wingers I guess.

Last season was an outlier goalscoring wise imo. He's also just spent most of this year out injured
91 goals in 272 games 1 in 3 also he’s experienced and physical, also if we went down would be able to lead the line for a promotion charge the season after and we could improve on him if we stay up, for a transitional CF he’d be quality

People slag our strikers off but wright generally is one of the championships best strikers over the 3 seasons hes had with us with 44 goals in 109 games

People need to stop obsessing with his body language because thats obviously who he is

Its really not an easy thing to find 20 goals in the league .

Im not sure what the club will do with simms and asante but youd imagine they will take wright to the premier league
I agree that body language is not the issue, I’m sure he tries BUT, he has no ability to hold a ball up against Championship defenders, so the ball comes straight back at us, and this is not going to improve. And hs”s been annonymous in many games this season, regrettably I can’t seeing him doing it in the premiership - be very pleased to br proven wrong…..
