Yeah Ashley is well known for avoiding bad publicity at all costs

I do, it takes seconds to get a definition on Google.

Any article relating to a new stadium always ramps up interest on twitter/forums. It will be the most read article on BBC CWR in months.
Clickbait is when you deliberately make a headline more vague to entice people to click on it in expectation of a bigger story. This isn’t the case here - the story is pretty transparent. If the story ends up being the most read article on CWR, it’s because it’s a good one.

If Doug has actually written to the council on this topic it’s a perfectly legitimate story to write…

If he has yeah. Really doubt he has written to them. Informal conversations it sounds like which isn’t worth reporting

Anyway, three years to sort all this

Promotion to the Premier League in that time could turn the tables in our favour

In the interim I am not even going to let it stress me out

Doug wanted the stadium from day 1 for a very good reason and he still does. It would be wise for him to look at every option if he feels that ownership of the stadium is off limits. He now is on a very small timeline to try to get a deal or get outside investment to build a stadium.

Not sure if anything is in the story or its true but common sense would say Doug would of explored the alternatives.

Delighted with this news. For too long we've resembled a normal football club without any kind of distracting sideshow

Feel the council could help with this, considering Fraser wants to build its mega site. Unless it’s outside the city boundaries.

Think the fsa and the new football bill requires a little more transparency from the club over stuff like this and I will be saying so
This requires no transparency at all. They are a privately owned business and it is their business. We are paying consumers not share holders. That is how business works. And confidentiality aka secrecy is very important.

As a bluff to put pressure on frasers it is not very good because our bluff can be too easily called. Frasers would see through it.

Capacity is a problem tho. When doing reasonably well we get sellouts. In the Prem so many of you covet we could do 35k at the bottom end. It may be more because DK wants at some point to sell out and it gives the club future profit growth potential

Maybe it's all about rent payable if we get promoted. Ashley wants his piece of the cake.

what is the benefit of frasers owning the CBS anyway? ok they get portions of sales etc, but surely being landlords is a pain in the arse?

Dolomite Ave near Canley station. I'm sure there are a couple of empty units up there the size of the CBS. Good location too

Storm in a teacup to be honest. Would rather have heard nothing as it's just gone cause some to stress and use it to further whatever bias they already have.

Negotiating tactics.

Sensible to let Mike Ashley know that if pushed, Doug will build a new stadium

You have just described my feelings as I saw the headline this morning and read the article and Simon's tweets.

I'm not suggesting it's a fake story or that it isn't a good one.

It used to be all Villa out there, don't know what it's like nowadays!

Saying that if there were ever to be a new stadium then Warwickshire Council might be easier to deal with if they could find the right place...

Just not true it’s a licence condition to discuss relocation of the stadium

Football Governance Act 2025

www.legislation.gov.uk

Here’s what it requires clubs to discuss with supporters under the new statutory framework:

Mandatory fan consultation topics

Under the Act, clubs are legally required to establish a Fan Advisory Board and carry out periodic consultation with supporters on several critical decisions, including (but not limited to) :
  • Relocation of the stadium
  • Changes to club identity, such as club name, badge/crest, colours
  • Significant financial restructurings
  • Strategic direction and governance
  • Ticket pricing changes (especially key shifts affecting supporter access and loyalty)

Transparency duties in insolvency situations

Moreover, if a regulated club enters insolvency proceedings, it must take reasonable steps to keep supporters informed about the progress of those proceedings

These fan-consultation obligations are not optional—they are licence conditions enforceable through the Independent Football Regulator (IFR). Non‑compliance may result in regulatory penalties, licence conditions or other enforcement actions .

In short, the Act places supporters at the heart of decision-making in their clubs—forcing meaningful dialogue on heritage, identity, location, finances, pricing, and insolvency.

It didn’t happen yesterday
It’s been leaked by someone following the forum last Thursday I reckon
It wasn’t me that told the press but I thought about it.
I didn’t as the person that told me asked me not to
