Morning guys and girls,
I was thinking this morning about the players that have left us so far this summer, the players that will be out of contract next season and various things, and it got me thinking. Say, with the wages we are saving from Marlon King, Kieren Westwood, Stephen O'Halloran, Lee Carsley, Isaac Osbourne, Aron Gunnarsson (Possibly) and Michael McIndoe, I would estimate around 35k per week, would we rather see the club use this money to tie down our important players to better, long-term deals and then use the rest for future transfers, or use the saved wages to bring in new players and then sort the existing players contracts later on, risking another situation like that of Westwood and King?
If I remember correctly, Sammy Clingan, James McPake, Freddy Eastwood, Chris Hussey, Martin Cranie, Carl Baker, Gary McSheffrey, Clive Platt and Danny Ireland all have only 1 year left on their contracts. Personally, I think the board need to be pro-active and sit down with Clingan, McPake, Hussey, Cranie and McSheffrey and get them signed up for a few more years. Baker and Eastwood should be given the season to prove they deserve another deal and Platt and Ireland should be let go next summer.
So personally, we cannot afford to let these players run their contracts down and go for free, so I would much rather us to get our existing players sorted first and then use the remaining wage budget on bringing in new players to complement the ones we currently have.
Thoughts?
