My worry...goals (1 Viewer)

Just thought I'd gage opinion here about a potential problem.
I think McGoldrick has been a fantastic loanee so far and has scored 7 goals already.

My worry is where are the goals are coming from other than McGoldrick?

He can't and won't score every game so we will need that regular secondary goal poacher about the team.
I'm hoping whatever Mark Robin's has been working on with Cody McDonald is at an advanced stage and he will be back as a natural goal scorer asap. We will need him if we are to continue our improving form.

My hope was Baker, Ball, and co would chip in on a regular basis but that does not seem the case. I'm not sure we even have a player who you would expect a goal from every 4 or 5 games do we? It's something we need.

Fleck will score goals. I think Ball will chip in with a few. Is McDonald injured? I know there's been this talk about him basically not being match fit, but reports were he had a knee injury too?

McDonald and mcgoldrick will be a very decent partnership. We have scored 6 in last 2 games, both of which were away from home, goals at the moment are not a concern

I agree with you Paxman, and raised this pre season when we were pinning our goalscoring hopes on Cody. Apart from McGoldrick and Cody before his injury, no one else looks like scoring. It is a worry.

We have complained for years at our inability to have a 20+ goals a season Striker, now we actually may have one (depending on whether we keep him after January) in McGoldrick and people are complaining about others not scoring! Baker, Ball, Wood, Cody, Hussey and Elliott have all scored this season as well. I expect Fleck and Moussa to wade in with a few too

Not complaining!
I'm pointing out a potential weakness to our side.
You mention Elliot, Hussey and Ball yet just ball has had a couple of games recently and no evidence they are regular goal scorers?
Wood will get a few over a season if he remains in the side that's very competitive at CB position but he won't be scoring 1 in 4/5 will he?
Only Cody is the potential help here and as i said, I hope the work MR is doing with him is soon to be witnessed on the pitch. Caution though he is a striker and they don't score every game. I'm just wondering where our midfield goals are coming from if baker is not scoring particularly and there's an off form McShefrey too?
Still think it's a worry too easily dismissed...

We've scored 12 goals in 12 league games so far.

McGoldrick - 5 in 9 apps
Cody - 2 in 7 apps (inc the og he didn't score)
Baker - 1 in 11 (free kick)
Barton - 1 in 9
Fleck - 1 in 8 (pen)
Wood - 1 in 11
Elliot - 1 in 8

That's what must be addressed if we are to make up the ground this season....

Without McGoldrick's goals we would be right in it I'm worried if we fail to keep hold of him.His goals & performances have been different class if he goes and we fail to replace him we will struggle for sure.

Keep Mcgoldrick to the end of the season an hopefully he will score 20+

Then we need Ball, Mcdonald to chip in with around 8-12 goals each

Then if these players can chip in with say 25 goals between them with Fleck, Baker, Elliott, Moussa, Sheff average of 5 goals each

And then the rest of the squad can get 10 goals between them

That is something like I would be aiming for, for goal targets from the squad. Keeping Mcgoldrick is vital

Sorry ccfc but that is fantasy considering we have already completely 25% of the season. To get that many goals from the squad would require them scoring 63+ in the last 34 games.....not gonna happen.

Couldn't agree more. Yet apparently we are a shoe in for the play-offs. Also we concede too many goals but I am sure we will average 2 points per game until the end of the season.

At 2-0 up against Swindon on Saturday, I could not help but think of life without McGoldrick in this side. We will not be keeping him past his loan expiry date. I approached SW at the fans forum at the Standard Triumph. I mentioned that King was turning in some good performances around Christmas time and we should have signed him up for longer then. Instead we waited until the Summer and bang, he was gone for one reason or another. I asked if DMc could be signed up until the end of the season or on a permanent if he came good to prevent us going without a natural goal scorer again. His response was on the lines of... Forest want money for him in Jan as he is out of contract in the Summer, his wages are high (so we must only be paying a %age) and he was not optimistic. To be honest, neither was I as the 2 reasons given were enough to put us out of the running to sign him. An optimistic view might be that MR was not at the helm at that time and may have more influence with the board than AT or, all Championship teams have ignored him and want to chance waiting for a freebie in the Summer.

Last 2 home game he hasn't been great, got a goal v Bournemouth, but he was shit before his goal IMO.

I'd love to keep him till the end of the season but I wouldn't be surprised if Forest don't recall him the way he us banging them in.

I don't think he is an emergency loan so there is no recall clause. Bailey is the only player in that catagory. He will go back in the first week of January and then Forest will sell him.

You state this as a fact. It is not a fact.

He is a free agent at the end of the season. He is contracted to them until then. He can't be forced to sign for Forest. Forest can't force him to sign for any other club. If he don't want to go to another club he won't have to go. He can sign a pre contract agreement in January. There is nothing Forest can do about this. If he is enjoying playing for us and wants to join us it is up to the club and himself to come to an agreement. He is enjoying his football with us. If he keeps scoring like he has been doing he will get hero status. Why risk moving to another club when you are at one you like, the fans like you and you have a decent manager that looks to be going places ?

I am not saying he will stay, but nobody can state he will go in January with certainty.

I work with and get a lot of stick from a couple of Forrest supporters. They don't rate him, they say he has under achieved for too long. I checked his stats when he joined us and for forest he scored something like 9 goals in 70 odd matches. I don't think they will want him back imo.
