Think we would have all liked one or two more but putting a positive spin on it...we've made a solid start. Chucking 3 or 4 new players into the team disrupts that and we've have to let them gel and so on.
We've strengthened in key areas, I'd rather that than webuyanycunt.com

GK - Stronger - Rushworth appears to be an upgrade on Collins
CB - Stronger - Woolfenden appears to be an upgrade on Binks
RB - Stronger - Added Kesler-Hayden for depth
LB - Stronger - Added Brau for depth
CM - Weaker - Lost Sheaf and not replaced him
AM - Same - No cover for Rudoni
RW - Same - No cover for Sakamoto
LW - Weaker - Lost Paterson and Raphael and not replaced either
ST - Weaker - Lost Bassette and not replaced him

Positives
+ Kept our 3 stars in van Ewijk, Rudoni and Wright.
+ Torp is now showing himself to be a top player at this level and feels like a new £5M+ signing.
+ Desperately needed to improve the defence. Woolfenden and Kesler-Hayden are good signings, too early to tell if Brau is a good signing or not.
+ Rushworth is an upgrade on Collins despite a poor/mixed start.

Negatives
- Only 1 RW in Sakamoto who can only play on the right.
- Only 1 LW in Mason-Clark who can only play on the left.
- Not strengthened our Strikers and are now 1 fewer with Bassette gone.
- No cover for Rudoni.
- Only 22 senior players with 3 goalkeepers. We can't even play 11 v 11 in training both in terms of numbers and lack of depth in several positions. I'm not counting U23 players.
- An injury to either Rudoni, Sakamoto, Mason-Clark or Wright and we are left with far weaker players that would be playing out of position.

Verdict
Not the worst window we've ever had. We've managed to offload most of the players who weren't good enough and managed to get good fees for Binks and Sheaf. But we really needed at least 2 more signings. A winger and a versatile central attacker to cover Rudoni and upfront were needed.

Out of all the teams who finished in and around the top 6 last season, we probably needed to sign the least amount of players.

Overall I think we are right to feel disappointed.

We have a lost a number of players, so that just worries me on numbers. Obikwu, Raphael, Bassette, Sheaf, when I think we needed to strengthen in terms of squad.

Fab we didn't lose Thomas, Haji, MVE etc. but I just think the squad is a bit thin.

The more I look at the squad the more concerned I am with the lack of depth in key positions.

GK - Rushworth, Wilson, Dovin
CB - Thomas, Kitching, Latibeaudiere, Woolfenden
RB - van Ewijk, Kesler-Hayden
LB - Dasilva, Brau, Bidwell
CM - Grimes, Torp, Allen, Eccles
AM - Rudoni
RW - Sakamoto
LW - Mason-Clark
ST - Wright, Thomas-Asante, Simms

Only 1 AM, 1 RW and 1 LW. An injury to any one of those positions and we are severely hindered.

If for example, Wright and Mason-Clark get injured like they did for a spell last season, we would then have to play either Thomas-Asante or Brau LW and Simms ST. Nobody can replace Rudoni if something happened to him so we would have to move to a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 formation. We managed pretty well last season when key players were injured but we now have a smaller squad than we did last year.

Let's hope they can all stay fit and make some signings in January.

Fair comments, however, like many of us we fail to see the use of our youngsters as progression. How do we see them? Are we an academy for the local non-league football scene, as that's where many end up, or do we believe we can unearth the next Maddison.

I hope FL gives Andrews and Perry minutes on the pitch, they can only improve by playing with better players, but by the end of the season if one or both of them are fighting for the first team squad then the lack of activities in the transfer market will be forgotten.

I’m very worried by the drop off in midfield. I was for selling Sheaf, but no replacement and I do fear we lack play off chasing credentials. Bit of me wonders if we have been complacent with our easy start. DK might be in for a shock when we play higher quality opposition.

Feels like a good window in terms of outgoings and improvements to the defence (assuming Rushworth and Brau can consistently perform well). On the other hand it's been poor in the forward areas particularly. Agree with everything you've said really, if we are lucky we should be ok, if we aren't.....

Plenty teams have much better squad depth than us now.

Not the point you're trying to make though is it. You're saying it's the best transfer window ever, I'm saying we're in trouble when injuries or suspensions hit.

One thing that's probably worth saying here is that it might be very difficult to get a number 10, as players are going to look at Rudoni and wonder how much playing time they'll realistically get.

We don't want to sign cover, we want to sign competition, and so you'd need a player of similar quality. Others won't want to come or won't be worth signing.

Fair, but if youre talented enough uou force your way, even alongside. The lack of creativity and flair is a worry. If Rudi were to get injured v Norwich, its 20 games until we can get a replacement.

I think anyone who thinks we have a realistic chance of top 4 is setting themselves up for a massive disappointment.

And 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th, you end up in the play offs.

I’m grateful for the stadium, but it’s not ‘entitled’ to criticise the club‘s transfer business. There was obviously money to spend and yet we’ve largely failed to spend it. After a 3 month transfer window we were left scrabbling around in the last 24 hours for some deals to pad out the squad. And like most of our attempts this summer it ended in failure.

I’m sure the recruitment team will be having some sort of lessons learned meeting this week to work out what went wrong. Were our targets unrealistic? Was the wage structure a problem? Do we need to be smarter in dealing with agents? Have market values moved on too much in an overheating market?

If we don’t promote this season our Crown Jewels will definitely be leaving next summer. We’re going to need a recruitment team at the top of their game to fix that.

In the end we need quality in the squad to push on not just numbers. After bringing in 3 new defensive players we were still total shit at the back. Let's hope no. 4 Wolfy makes the difference.
I suspect Doug is concerned about wage bill. Probably needs Simms to go before we can get more in.

So you are saying we lack talented players under the age of 21. Because you can only have 25 senior players in your squad. Even if you loan an under 21 player they count as part of the 25.

What we need is players who are resilient but disciplined. Also in recent seasons we have had a couple of players that regularly missed large chunks of the season injured. Injuries happen, but you don't want players who are prone to regular injury.

We had Wright, BTA and Simms last season, yet Bassette still made 25 appearances. Who is that 4th man this season, especially as two of the 3 we have are also cover for wide positions.

Two of them get injured, we're in bother. One has a massive drop on form, you have to keep playing them. Obviously, you cannot account for every permutation, and all clubs have these challenges. Saying we're possibly a couple of players light really isn't all that controversial.

Big opportunity this season, for the 1st time in a while it seems genuinely open at the top and I don't think anyone walks it. Might have been the right time to have a punt. Time will tell. Not panicking at all, we'll see.

Unfortunately you can’t legislate for 2-3 players in every position being injured whoever you are. That’s football. It’s ridiculous to say who comes in if 2 in that role are out. How many first teamers in each position would be satisfactory??

We were allowed to buy the stadium at any time, even outside of the transfer window, so let’s put that to one side for a moment.

All transfer windows are different and have different objectives, so it’s hard to compare like for like. I would say that the windows where we bought a 15m player for 1.5m (Hamer) or a 20m player for 1m (Vic)were pretty successful. The one where we sold those two players and rebuilt the spine of the team from the proceeds was also pretty successful too. The three windows I mentioned have been transformative for the team and are a massive part of why we’ve transitioned to a top six team. I don‘t see us looking back in a year and thinking this window has taken us to the next level, feels at best like a consolidation of where previous transfer windows have already taken us.

I'm really tired of people's sole argument that IF key players get injured or suspended, then we are weaker..... Right... Wow, real groundbreaking stuff there. That is the exact same case for every single football team going.

For the first time in my memory, we haven't sold / lost a key player. And none of you start pretending suddenly Sheaf is... Again, usual suspects constantly stating captain... Despite the FACT the person wearing the armband the most this season has been Kitching. Sheaf has long been rinsing a wage on medical table, or been under performing on the pitch for the last 2 seasons. 1 good season in championship, the rest in lower league. Says it all.

It's been the most insufferable this forums ever been, constant drivel and idiocy wrapped up as 'trolling'. Whenever a fair point is raised it's ignored (evidenced countless times in this thread) and I will await the classic, really original now and hilarious : Reaction score reviewed, opinion rejected.
