I've never heard that Henry and Trezeguet thing before, is that legit?

I can't remember who it was that told me now but it was someone at the club. Seen something in the CT at some point too.

It was in the Staying Up book by Rick Gekoski yes. Certainly was Trezeguet but wasn't the other player Ruud Van Nistelrooy?

He was one as well.

But a bit like Ranson having nearly signed Andy Carroll, think these type of things take on a life of their own once a player becomes successful. You never hear how we came this close to signing Michael Ricketts, after all!

Phil Masinga and Alexi Lalas are the nearly men I remember most. We must have signed Cobi Jones after Lalas said no purely because we were determined to come back with something, like when you panic buy a massive Toblerone in duty free.
Chris Coleman and Lee Bowyer were nearly men as well, also who were the two from
Rangers who were almost over the line, only for them to pull the plug last minute.

Neil Lennon was another who nearly signed, but nothing beats Robert Jarni

I remember when we had Chris Marsden on loan . Rave Reviews from the press especially down at Spurs, always seemed to have time on the ball , pulling all the strings in the team.......and then they let him collect his boots on the last day of his loan period and then go and sign for wolves..... think we got Sandy Robertson (from Gers) to replace him. Cursed Phil Neale for weeks.....and weeks....

Defo Jorge "the hammer" Albertz. Used to work in Glasgow and they were pretty convinced he was moving to us.

Didn't we nearly sign Pavel Nedved then he had a stormer in an international competition and went to Juventus or something?

Pay attention Sisu: that is how you drive the club tens of millions into debt: in fucking style. Say what you want about Richarse, but it was fun being a fan at the time. And cost us the same as Sisu's tenure.

He was but he was a bit later, Strachan was manager when we tried to buy Albertz & McCann, can't remember who was in charge when we tried to buy Novo. I think we agreed a fee of £500k with Rangers but he chose to stay with Rangers.

Nedved had a terrific euro 96 so went to Lazio I think on the back of it. Zenden was another who we courted but then Barca came in and that was that iirc

I was only about 10 or 11 when he was on loan but still remember how good he was, especially in that Spurs game. My dad's a Spurs fan and still goes on about him.

Didn't he have a few 'personal problems'?

That's on the twitter thread and was odd to say the least. His agent was on Sky Sports News saying it was complete. Both clubs released statements saying it'd happened. We then pulled out as we heard McKenzie and Kyle were both available for a lot more money!

We nearly took Marc Albrighton on loan from villa, but he refused when we went to Northampton, he went to Wigan instead.

I believe Robbie Savage nearly came to us around the same time, as I believe both were at Crewe(?)

Quite possible as they were both at Crewe, they have produced a lot of good players

Micky Adams very nearly signed Darren Moore one transfer deadline day. He was at the Ricoh but obviously for whatever reason it didn't happen.
