Reality check for all that thought we signed KKH to compete with him or even worse, as backup. We’re not that big…yet.

Inevitable that he was going but I’m confident we’ve got a fantastic replacement in KKH.

Gutted if he goes

Need to get a good fee

Not sure wolfsburg is that good a move. The days of dzsko and grafite are long gone. Now the stadiums are rarely full and finish mid table

That said they do have without a doubt the best goal music of any club ever

At least it's not the Showaddywaddy version, is it?

Yes but as I’ve said; he gets caught out of position because he is doing his literal job - pushing high up the pitch when we have possession. Football isn’t played with flat banks of 4 or 5 behind the ball now when you’re in possession unless your Wycombe Wanderers or Premier League era Stoke City.

It happens to all full backs. Yes there’s an element of picking the right moments but I actually think MVE is relatively conservative given his pace.
Yeah good point and correct.
I do still feel, at times, he’s a bit erratic and a headless chicken but when he’s on it, he’s unplayable. Shame to lose him really and if it is around 6.5M, we’ve had our pants down in some respects.

Im with jamesimus , any fullback gets caught out time to time when asked to play high up the pitch .. the fact he can recover is what makes him so valuable to the team
He gets away with it in our league but wouldn’t against premier players who are already going to be are as quick as he is.

If there was interest from premier league clubs then we would be talking about a fee nearer to what most were hoping for.

It would have been insane to keep MVE. Or at least if there was a prospect of him staying, spend so much on KHH.i suspect the player himself was determined to move and had told them early on.

As to the value, those estimates of over 10 were way too optimistic for a full back of his age from a Championship side. Luton clearly overpaid for Giles. 8 was the figure I had in my head and the 6.5 being talked about is at the lower end but still doubles our money in 2 years.

There should be money in the kitty now for a good central defender

If only we could now shift Sheaf...

Though the initial selling price seems low, sometimes we have to be pragmatic. As Gibbo says, we will double our money (probably more than, with add ons). Looks like MVE has been up front about wanting a move, we have acted quickly (and well) to replace him.

A decent CB and someone to compete with Sakamoto would make our squad clearly stronger than it was last year. Think Lampard will wait towards the end of the window though.

Exactly. MVE is a great defender, but his output going forward doesnt make any headlines.

The fact we havent had many concrete bids for him is why I always saw him going for around this much.
In fairness to MVE, his 'expected assists' was 7 which was more than most our outfielders. His defensive stats were good, but KKH's were better.

Could probably do with adding goals to his game, you look at what Firpo and Bogle were able to last season for Leeds. In fact, we've never seen an MVE goal similar KKH's goal v Rovers in pre-season where he's been on the shoulder of the last defender and beat them for pace.

It looks like that tactic is a new one for this pre season where KKH literally plays up front sometimes.

MVE also did it when he came on.

Milan picked up similar positions at times towards the back end of last season. It's obviously something Lampard wants his fullbacks to do more of

It’s because Sakamoto wants to play on the touch line so someone has to pick up the inside right position. It makes sense.

Credit to Milan - he’s properly given his all since arriving here, and I hope he leaves in a way that doesn’t tarnish that like we’ve seen with other big names leaving. Going quickly, quietly and whilst still putting in decent performances in pre-season is testament to his character and with ethic.

Be sad to see him go as again 1 of our better players is sold in the summer. The sooner it's done hopefully sooner we can finish our business for the summer with a couple quality signings

6-7m per season losses according to the notes from the fans forum, I'd take record season tickets and merch out of the equation I think it's mainly going to be based on players in and out.

It's strange how people just overlook all the other expenses involved in running a football club and concentrate solely on the playing side.
I don't think his handling of the purse strings is something King can be criticised for.
