I would have preferred a proven operator in the lower leagues, Richard Money or Uwe Rosler spring to mind.

Moving on, will SISU back him over the summer when we need at least 10 players ?

Shutting down free speech. I don't agree with the view and think it's a positive appointment, but would defend someone's right to express a different opinion

Nah, for me it's Mowbray all day. If he does sign that for me, this is a massive step forward for us.

Since Strachan left we have had how many managers ? The new boss arrives on average one year after the last great hope and its and always the same promises of great things ahead and jam tomorrow, I am surprised there is a single CCFC fan that falls for it anymore.

For those that who think the futures great there is one positive, to get a good manager here Fisher and Waggott must have promised some kind of backing in transfer market.

I must admit that he was not a name I would have picked out as first choice and that was mostly due to my own impressions rather than based upon any factual finding , which seem to indicate that we may well have a manager that wants to instil an entertaining brand of football. He has got teams into the payoffs and promoted before, he has taken very high pressure jobs such as celtic so he has the experience. His win ratio is not bad at all.

I am massively encouraged by the fact that he did not apply and it would seem that CCFC are actively courting him and having to provide re-assurances regarding what he will get when he gets here. Demonstrating his reputation for thoroughness.

If it is confirmed today, I hope this will be a new start for the owners as well as Tony and the supporters. I truly wish him all the best and hope he turns out to be the first manager since Jimmy Hill to se us promoted through the leagues.

Mowbray

I think it's a good appointment for both Coventry & Mowbray.

It's good for Mowbray because it gets him back on the merry-go-round and if he does well with us he will be head-hunted by a Championship or Premiership manager at some point.

It may be the same old story but how can we complain with his appointment considering our lowly position and our baggage.

I think it is better than Rosler, his recent failure at Wigan which may be following our path over the last few years, Mowbray is rested and ready for the challenge again and if we can stay up he will be able to attract a better class of player in the summer with us being at the Ricoh rather than what Pressley had to deal with last year.

What do people expect? We must remember where we are at the moment and Mowbray's track record speaks for itself.

I am personally over the moon. Yes it's early days and we don't know how things are going to pan out but let's all get behind this one qpr get our arses up to the Ricoh on Saturday to give the miserable bastard a good welcome!!

In answer to the OP only time will tell. It's not all down to the new manager though, SISU as always have a major role to play in any success so they need to buck their ideas up otherwise I can quite easily see us being back in the same position in 12-18 months if they carry on like they have been. I would hope that a manager with TM's experience would have told them exactly what he needs from them and has got the reinsurances he required. I can't imagine he's coming here with the intention of keeping things turning over why SISU concentrate on the courts.

For me it's the correct appointment. Firstly Mowbray when at West Brom played a really attractive brand of football and unearthed some great players. Gera, Dorrans, Koren...
Secondly, I've read a lot of opinion stating that people would rather have someone who had been successful at league 2 level or done well at the likes of Rochdale, Port Vale etc. I think we need a man who knows how to manage a club of our size, potentially we are a premier league side. Very similar to the Baggies. He needs to instill that mentality into any player currently at the club or who is to come in. We do not belong at the bottom end of league 1. The fact he has done it with West Brom makes him a very exciting appointment for the club that we should all get behind.

When I heard that yesterday I was quite surprised.
Contrary to what was said by many, this is not a cheap option - probably the most expensive in fact as TM was in a much stronger negotiating position than anybody who sent in applications.

I can't help but guffaw at comments such as "I'd have preferred Richard Money over Mowbray"! Each to their own.

Before the whole rat race started, he wasn't someone I thought about either. However, it was more to do with it being unrealistic that we could go out and get someone like that in our position, on and off the pitch. Delighted with it. The right man? We'll see, won't we. Judgments can't be made yet.

I think it is a very shrewd appointment and still shows we are an attractive proposition as a club, I get the feeling we will be used as a stepping stone or a gate back into the merry go round of management, but if he does well, then we get the rewards from it.

Their is really no need for any negativity with this appointment, he will be a big coup for a league one club, has the CV to prove he knows how to get the best out of his players, cut the budget big time at Middlesborough and lay the foundations for them to kick on.

He must of been assured abit of wheeling and dealing in the summer as with the correct funding and the little deals and here and there, should we be fortunate to stay in the league this year, we could be a good dark horse next year should SISU start to actually want to start making some real football money.

However right now, its a good appointment much better than most options from lower leagues etc, and lets just back him for the mini season we got coming up.

We will find out if it was right come the end of the season, but he needs the backing of those still going. Some were convinced it would be Hockaday or some other cheap and easy appointment, so at least this one is being made with a bit of ambition.

If he turns out to be half as good an appointment I will be a happy wrong man, given I have already pointed that out I don't feel inspired by him!
