Two games in , all be it fitness sessions, our chances are once again coming from the likes of Rudoni in midfield.
We really have to go all balls out to bring in a half decent striker because relying on those clowns BTA and Simms is not going to pay dividends. For all we know Wright may pick up more injuries too.

For me season is already over after watching that. If we don't sign a new keeper and a striker that knows where the target is for me it's all over. Forget the play offs mid table at best

I play a sport at a reasonable level - we play in a handicap cup every year - in the last two seasons we have been drawn against the top team in League 1 - our team is in league 3 - Altnough losing each game it is a great experience just to play against players who are on a different skill
Level - it encourages you to model on the skills and create the desire to be able do the same !

Yes we need some new players but the experience for those players will
Have been useful !

PUSB looking forward to the new season - love the new kit colour

It makes sense. MVE is our quickest player and he’d get left in the dust by wingers like Semenyo, Martinelli and Luis Diaz. Meanwhile we’ve still got plodders like Bidwell, Allen and Lati getting playing time.
I think Lati is an honest player but not really good enough and Bidwell and Allen are just not good enough anymore, we have outgrown them..at best for all 3 is bit part players which we don't really need although I think we will have to keep because we don't have the funds to replace at present

We have too many players who arnt good enough for a top two challenge, and are not really good enough for a top 6 push,
Such as

Collins
Wilson
Bidwell
Binks
Lats
Allen
BTA
Simms
Rapha

That's far too many to move out in one transfer window, so Frank will still have to work with the squad he inherited, and will again have to overachieve to get us into the playoffs.

Imo, the 3 biggest problems to address are GK, CH and CF, if we can bring in 3 key players either permanently or on loan we should still make the top 6, but if we lose Rudoni in this window or he gets injured, we're going to have big problems.

There's definitely some middle ground between the "We're fucked" crowd and the "it literally means nothing" faction:

- The opening 20 was good, we looked slick
- Some of the 2nd string are NOT good enough anymore (Allen, Bidwell, Wilson)
- We should never play a 442
- Monaco showed how important physicality is. That 6'5 CM they had in the 2nd half was INCREDIBLE. He made Allen look like a competition winner. All their defenders were 6'2+, fast and strong. This is something we need to try and emulate, getting stronger and quicker all over the pitch.
A game against top opposition at this stage means nothing, but, it can highlight areas where we are struggling, and this was very evident last night.

At this stage of pre-season I'd sooner we lose 5-0 to Monaco and learn what we need, than beat Nuneaton or Leamington 5-0 and learn nothing.

I’m guilty of this but this is the best team we’ll play all season. Let’s not worry too much.

It’ll highlight where we need to improve but watching it back there was some good moments where we controlled the game. Need improvements in areas but I’m sure it’ll be much improved against Bristol

The bigger issue for me so far is the failure to score in 4 halves. Rudi missed a couple and that's about as close as we've come. If we're going to concede as many as last season (and that looks highly likely at the moment) we need to be creating much more and finishing. It's been clear for some time that we do need a top class striker to partner/compete with Haji

Although they scored 5 goals I was more impressed with their defence. Dusted up every pass and won every header in their box.

Four quarters, surely?

Prefer defeats and suspect performances in pre season. Frank will get to know his team better that way. Last season's bright pre season then turned into one of the worst openings to a season I can remember. That opening Stoke game, where we barely created a chance against a piss poor team. The home defeats to Norwich & Swansea...

Take away the Everton win it was actually pretty poor. It did surprise me though when they failed to turn up at Stoke given all the talk and the hype!

Betis will be a similar test - fans will help though

I think the fitness levels of the Monaco players will really Lampard drive home his point. We have a lot of players with desires to play in the Prem - games like this will help them realise the levels they need to reach if they want to make that a reality

5-0 defeat is somewhat concerning all be it against strong opposition. However, it's Pre-season the players have no doubt been training hard and are a little tired.

Every season without fail.

Pre season results mean fuck all.
Unless we get hammered at home against Hull, in which case the writing would of been on the wall in pre season and why wasn't it addressed?

You can't have it all ways.

The result against Monaco means nothing in terms of points, but has highlights some areas for drastic improvement before the season kicks off.

We have 3 weeks to narrow the obvious gap between us and what Monaco where able to achieve without them even breaking sweat.

I know we were 2-0 down but I don't think the gap was crazy in the first half with our first-choice midfield - we played some good stuff, although we couldn't create anything

Our second choice midfield however got rolled over and couldn't cope at all (to be expected when we were in more of a 4-4-2 shape and neither Allen/Torp are natural 6's)

What was obvious to me was that their teenagers were a cut above our experienced first teamers, once they settled down there was a massive difference in quality, which is only to be expected, but I think we can definitely improve on that with 2 or 3 additions.

There was a massive problem in the final third where we looked disjointed and failed to create enough, we lacked a physical presence, and couldn't hold the ball up enough.

Sorry if asked already but is there a highlights video from this game?
Unlikely for quality reasons, but if anyone will Monaco will. The camera angle was really poor. Really low down by the dugouts. It did switch to a 2nd camera, also low down, nearer the penalty area but only occasionally.

For Willson's sake I hope they dont show the 5th goal 😐

That’s really not fair, it was a great assist.
