Mitrovic (want - not a rumour!) (2 Viewers)

It's quite clear (if you're not trying to be a bellend). I'm saying whilst there is no chance or even a rumour of this, it's the profile of player that I think we need of we have genuine promotion ambitions. We're not in the market to buy a special player, so a young potential talent (ala Villa had with Abrahams when promoted) or an experienced quality loan (mitrovic fired Fulham to promotion twice from this same league) are the levels you need.

We can argue all day about whether Hughes or Doyle are better than Thomas or Kitching, but it's a 25 goal a season striker required that pushes us above where we are currently.
Ok… not at all what the post said.

And my point is we cannot currently attract a player with the pedigree of Mitrovic because anyone with a similar profile would demand wages out of our budget, and would have more attractive options anyway.

Simms was our attempt at signing a player like Abraham, they had similar careers until age 21/22. It just hasn’t worked out.

FFS and you think this thread is clueless.

Simms was permanent not a loan. Simms had scored 7 for Sunderland before at this level. Abraham had not only scored 23 in a season at Bristol City, but that loan season at Aston Villa (he was only 20 at the start of that season, Simms is 24 and was 22 when he signed) he scored 25 in 37!! not even close.

And fwiw I've already said that's not our model (in the opening post) what it also said was if you want a special player that will push us on, then you need to break that structure. I doubt anyone would complain if they fired us to promotion - even the players who will mostly have clauses of bonuses and double salary based on promotion.

Simms only had half a season with Sunderland, and obviously I’m talking about before Abraham joined Villa. Yes Abraham’s record was better but they weren’t worlds apart.

It’s not about “model”. We can’t sign players like Mitrovic full stop, we don’t have the pull or the money.

Good footballer but the sulkiest of sulky trousers in the entire world of football. A David Speedie dialled up to 11. Every. Single. Day. And twice on match days.

If people think Bassette or Kitching have personality traits that haven’t always fitted in with the higher ups at the club then they would see a whole new world w Mitrovic.
Speedie was no sulk compared to some players nowadays. Maybe some of it needs to rub off onto our number strikers?

Cheers Doug, I'll let everyone know.

You said they were very similar at 22 when at 21 Abraham had fired a team to promotion and scored over 50 goals. Yep identical.

Certainly kept you coming back to post a few times and look a proper Charlie. Came on giving it the billy big bollocks about being clueless and gone on to prove that you know fek all! Well done.
“Why doesn’t Doug simply sign the all time record championship goal scorer”

cheers for the insight 🤣

Except there wouldn't be anything in the pot should we achieve that promotion.

Linked with the Blues. Obviously hope that doesn’t happen, but set me thinking just how good someone like that would be for us.

Clearly not our model being 31 in September, and would be ridiculous wages, but imo worth breaking the structure for. £100k per week is £10m over two years, but he’s a beast in the Championship and with how we set up, he’d get so many chances. I genuinely believe that if we do have funds to spend, then he would give us a chance of firing into the automatics.

Get it done Doug! :)
He's supposedly on £400,000 a week out in sunny Saudi, so I hardly think hes going to find our wages a good enough reason to upsticks for a wet and cold English winter of football.
