love to think so, but just cant see it.

I just get the same feeling with Keogh as I did with King last year

Keep him, and who knows, lose him and we will be in trouble

we wont get much more than 500k for him..

We will have to replace him, even on a free there would be a sigining on fee

Cant see much value in selling Keogh to cover loses.

Quotes of losing 3.5 million in revenue by going down to League One, surely the priority is to get that back asap, and we stand a much better chance with Keogh in the team

Keogh is a good player. But I think people are rating him too highly. If we lose him it won't be anywhere near as big a blow as it was losing King.

Let him go and let's move on and replace him quickly. Its going to happen I'd rather it happen now than just before the start of the season.

Apparantly Carlisle take a sell-on cut so we don't even get the the full amount if sold! Makes keeping him for the rest of his contract more sense!

I'd rather it done and dusted to be honest. I'd love him to stay, but lets face it... he's well above L1 level.

Coupled with TF's comments "It would have to be CASH not Dribs and Drabs".

As others have said, decision needs to be made in next few days so we can look to get replacement in. I think he will go, but aslong as we have time and board willing to, get few players we will need so we at least have a squad, however strong it is or isn't.

Its not a choice for him to make! He is still under contract for one more year. He can only go if the club decide to sell him on!

Atm there are a number of clubs looking at him - that put's us at an advantage.
I'm not fussed if he goes. Don't get me wrong, he was exceptional last season and easily our best player but lets not kid ourselves, losing a defender and losing the only proven goalscorer we've had in years are 2 very different things. If theres a bidding war for him (i.e Cardiff and Brizzle City are willing to increase their offers to beat the other 1 to his signing) and we hold out for a good figure, then it puts the club at a much better footing - able to use the money to bring in a couple of players, either on loan or perm. with a bit left to cover a month or so's losses.
He's good, but not irreplacable.

When we lost King we also lost half the squad and replaced with about 2!!
At least now we appear to be bringing the right type of player in to build a team. Yes we have lost some again, but most have been fringe players Eastwood Mcpake et al! We do seem to be trying to compete though, gutted if Richard goes of course, but if we force him to stay will his mind be right? will he move on in spite of promotion because we forced him. Best cash in, keep CCFC going and build a team to win promotion first time.

Agreed. If we sign this guy and also a striker (or even 2) we would on paper have one of the strongest squads in the league.

When was the last time we replaced someone who was sold with the money from that sale?

I remember the whole, if we sell Turner and buy Cody it will improve the team

Wonder how that one worked out !

We are about to lose a VERY capable defender, who is our CAPTAIN and who is under contract with us, and he can play in more than one position.

If we get 500k all upfront for him (which is unlikely), when you take off the 20% for Carlisle, you are down to 400k, throw in agents fees and a signing on fee for a free transfer, and we will make about 250k at best from the sale of Keogh.

Its just not worth selling him.

NO DEAL

agreed promotion outweights a few ---,000k imo, with keogh we should be rock solid at back, midfield looks encouraging to say the least and upfront we have strikers who will be up against worse defences than they were last year....reasons for optimism

Easy to say but others on here will lambast the club as they did for letting Westwood walk for nothing. Depreciation on a prime assett from half a million to zero would send any accountant in a tailspin. The club is negligent if they do not sell on that basis.

One man does not a team make! Laughable that people think if he stays we are strong and if goes we are weak! Cardiff aside which other big money sides are looking at him? Certainly no Premership teams - He ain't that good we are just deprived of quality in recent times! PUSB

If he goes and there is an injury to Wood (which happened last year) our defence would be

Clarke---Henderson---Cameron-----Hussey

oh, Henderson was on work experience last season at Nuneaton...

Losing keogh IS a big deal !

I think we all agree losing Keogh would be a step backwards - and will weaken the squad - but I'm convinced I'm convinced if a half-decent offer comes in for him he will be sold

Losing Keogh would be a massive loss, but if the cash was invested back in the team who knows everything could work out well! But yeah lets face it none of it would go back into the squad so it could be a disater!

We still would have Willis hopefully

Losing him is only a big deal if we don't replace him. If he goes you can add 2 cb to our transfer list.

The unfortunate result of 'moving on' is that we are in a worse position than we started at. But that, I am told, is progress.

I would say we have a stronger squad now than at the start of last season. That is progress

The thing is we dont have the money to replace him with the same calibre of player so we are just diluting the squad. We keep doing this and thats why we find ourselves in league 1 if we live by are means we are probably only just a football league club let alone a Div1 club!.

They need to make a stand and dig in for a change if you ask me lets accept the losses and take a gamble on keeping a good set of players to maybe just maybe get promotion. The irony of this is a £3.5 million loss against offering King a two year deal.....was it really worth...I think not. :jerkit:

really? Do you mean in terms of the opposition we are likely to meet? or that we would have been better off trying to avoid relegation with the current squad?
