He was rubbish years ago; the only thing he did was run around, given he'll be 34 by the time the season starts he probably won't even be able to do that anymore. Big no.

The billboards outside the shops here proclaimed Pompey were lining up a major signing - turned out to be Doyle!

Think they'll be disappointed if he does sign, they're talking like he's the second coming! Bit disappointing for Doyle as well, would have expected him to stay in L1. Although he may well be offered a higher wage at Pompey than he would a bottom half L1 side.

The club that you support is going through a very bad time with finances and league position. The club where you live is going through a very bad time with finances and league position. Is your middle name Lucky?

Seem to be going for it this year, Pompey, had them on an accumilator for promotion the last 2 seasons and failed miserably, might try for third time lucky this time.

The player you're describing is Jamie Allen, isn't that a turn up!

If we end up in the Championship with the Villa I want Doyle back for one game. Just so he can kick some Villa players. Could be a sort of testimonial.

It would have been awful, I take it you did see Fleck play for us a very talented but lazy player who rarely turned up after half time.

These posts were made when were a League 1 club to be fair and he didn’t last many League 1 games for us

This is the thread when it was announced he was coming back in League 2 Michael Doyle re signing for City. I believe it also contains the end of Dongo

It's ok, I was just being playful with a few responses as I found them funny based on age and being over 12 months before we actually signed him. I was only looking at FM's old posts to see if he had a previous name and if there was anything we could work out how to get in touch with him. I'm sure we all have loads of old posts where our opinions can make us look silly.

Should be working in the scouting department haha. That said i also thought that John Swift would go on to be a top player for Chelsea after watching him dismantle us at the Ricoh whilst on loan at Swindon.

Turns out he now plays for Reading, i think Chris Badlan's job is safe!

Other than a handful of games in Sheffield’s relegated season he never appeared in the championship again after leaving us

It was always a level above his ability and he has never really improved his style and ability from when he was with us. He was hugely overrated first time round and though not his problem very overpaid

Tommy Hutchison is a City legend and Doyle doesn’t come close to the likes of him. The only coaching job Doyle could do is teaching how to pass to the opposition because he was a master of it.

Rubbish. Being a great player doesn’t = being a great coach/manager, same as being a crap player doesn’t = being a crap coach/player.

What a terrible opinion, Doyle was instrumental for us in the play off season and a class leader on and off the pitch

Whlie Aidy Boothroyd's teams may have been hard on the eye, I always enjoyed listening to his after match comments where he usually had something insightful to say. One of his sayings was that, while football teams needed artists, they also needed soldiers too.
Considering how long our club has been around, we have had very few promotions. In 54 years supporting this club I have seen two. I very much doubt that we would have been promoted from the fourth division two years ago unless we had a 'soldier' like Doyle playing for us. He was therefore a major player in one of the most enjoyable and memorable of those 54 seasons. He is certainly no Tommy Hutchison but considering the amount of games he played for our club and particularly for his captain's role in a rare promotion season, he will be one of our most memorable players. Even his harshest critic would surely acknowledge that while on the pitch, he cared, giving heart and soul to try and achieve a result. He is probably the stand out playing character of the post top flight years.(not the best footballer). I wouldn't argue with the legend tag in his case.
