He's using the thing in his contract that lets him terminate it himself after each season, Barca are trying to fight it. Seems like he might be a free transfer? Wherever he ends up he's going to get bonkers money for it!

Barca say the clause has expired, if so he's going nowhere as no one is going to pay the fee they'd want at his age and as he is out of contract next year.

Barca should let him go. They were great a few years ago because they had great players playing for each other, now they are going for the failed galactic route where it's all individuals. Move on, refresh, use that famed academy and redevelop the culture. 'Mes que un club' they are not at the moment.

So where to next? Man City seems too obvious.

Man City or PSG would be the only clubs that could afford his wage realistically

The Spanish football pundits don't even think he wants to leave and think he's just trying to force a presidential election there.

Pep will be all over this

Not necessarily. A LOT of clubs would pay £80m for a player half as good PLUS £150k upwards on wages. If he can trigger his clause and move for free, youve still got £80m to spread out across his contract length for his wages.

That wouldn't stand up in court. They'd just argue that a) the clause had an end date and no attempt to extend was made b) Even if you took into account the extended season they'd argue it would of either extend after their defeat or on Sunday.

The legal precedent seems to be as per players contracts ending dated clauses don't extend automatically and have to be extended.

That club needs a reboot from top to bottom, let Messi go and hoover up some more players of the ilk and age bracket of De Ligt

Then the president should fuck him off, players shouldn't have that much power, always ends up badly.

I think if he does go he'll end up in the US, Qatar or China for eye watering money or back in Argentina to finish his career at home Maradona style.

So the £80m you'd spend on Bale/Kane etc would get 3 years of Messis wages.

Bale yes but Kane wouldn't be available for anything below £150m IMO

The president is toast anyway as the next election is just over a year away. Messi wants to bring forward that election.

I'd fuck him off as well. He's still a genius but these days he walks back if he loses the ball.

When Messi is/could be on a free, why pay £150m PLUS wages for Kane. You get my point!

Imagine having a clause where he can decide to leave if he wants.

That sort of shit is their problem, giving him too much power.

Think the 2 week quarantine will be a deal breaker.

He’s on a fair bit more than that. Seem to recall when I looked it was just short of €1m per week.

Indeed, and if he stays until the end of his contract next summer he gets a €50m loyalty bonus. And can leave for nothing.

Whilst I would agree in general, for anyone who follows Barcelona or la liga even remotely, the one thing you would want right now is a presidential election for the good of the club because Bartomeu is an absolute joke

I reckon he will go to PSG or someone could set up a Go Fund Me page to bring him here

Not sure he'd move anywhere for the money, he must easily be worth over 100 million. I think if he does go, it'll be to a club with a seriously good chance of winning the domestic league and champions League. Bayern, man city, inter etc. Can't see him moving to PSG personally as it's such a nothing league and he'd be wasting the last of his career.

The more I read about it the more I'm convinced it's just a power play & he'll stay at Barca.

This, he says (or people say on his behalf) thats hes the G.O.A.T, but unlike Ronaldo who is willing to move to different countries and clubs to prove he can do it on EVERY stage, Messi is comfortable being fed easy 6 yard tap ins at Barca where only 2 teams in the league are any good and he can play shit tes week in week out making him look better than he really is. This is just a way of making a)People think he actually wants to move to another club to show he can do it elsewhere. b)A way to get more money out of Barca

The league where only 2 teams are any good didn't do badly against the best league in the world

Im not saying they don't. Nor am I saying Real Madrid or Barca are shit. (If thats what you took from my post then shit the bed, you need help) im saying that I could play up front for Barca in the Spanish leagues and score 30 a season, its not hard. And if Messi wants to lose that "tag" then he has to prove he can do it elsewhere (like Ronaldo has time and time again). If he's happy being the top scorer in a dreadful league though, then kudos to him, but for that reason, he'll NEVER be the true G.O.A.T like CR7 is.
