McSheffery (2 Viewers)

Would you offer him a new contract ?

In my mind he just makes up the numbers and has been a passenger (like one or two others) this season. He has lost his pace, seemingly lost his passion

Saturday first half more often than not he stood around while the Saints passed around him (not a bad team certainly one of the better ones to come to the Ricoh recently - but we proved briefly that they could be put under pressure). At best McSheffery broke into a walk with a few runs inter mingled. Second half when he should have provided Christie with some token cover at least he went missing - leaving Cyrus (playing out of position but never giving up) two attackers to mark. Poor performance but that has become the norm from him

I think the diamond formation does not work well for us. It would if we passed progressively and quickly but we dont. So that system that McSheffery was key to is becoming redundant out of necessity. So if he is no longer a pacey wide player, no longer is a good goal threat and the system he is key to is not to be used why keep him ?

Like many of the senior players he has been a disappointment this season. Perhaps he will get injured playing and get a new contract  but personally I would let him go. He has lost his pace, never had great vision, plays for himself and his decision making is woeful. Thanks but lets not tie ourselves in to even more lame ducks

If we are already planning for a league 1 campaign I think he could be a good player at that level. He wouldn't be top of my list for renewals but I would rather him than Baker/Bell.
He did a great flick for Platt's goal on Saturday.

But the flick didnt actually create the goal ...... that owed more to the attempted clearance hitting the defender and Platt being in right place at right time.

Yea the goal was lucky but that flick set up the whole panic in the Southampton defence, if Juke had controlled the ball better he probably would have scored himself then it would have set up the goal. That flick was about the most creative/flair pass a Coventry player played all game.
He hasn't been good this season but he is still a better option than the alternative. If we are to go 4-4-2 he is the only player to play there unless we play a right footer in that position.
Basically he is the best of a bad bunch imo.

unfortunately CCFC the fact that McSheffery is the best of what we have tells you a lot about Sky Blues at the moment. He wouldnt be get getting a game in most other Championship teams or quite a few League 1 ones either

I hated him the 1st time we had him, he is greedy and selfish and isn as good as he thinks he is, i remember us tryin to ship him him out to Luton permanantly and even they didnt want him, we only resigned him on the free so it would please the fans who still worship him even though he is SHIT

That's complete and utter shite. He banged in a goal a game and they were desperate to have him. He came back and was promptly our highest scorer. My 3 little brothers hero-worship him from those days, he was a class above anything we had.

I like him. My Dad likes him. My son likes him. My wife doesn't like him, but that doesn't count.

I nutmegged him one time playing on a school pitch around '96. The last good thing I ever did.

Blimey, he's done well if he's made an impression on your son-doesn't he just think that football's "boring?" :D

Not if there's a hotdoog in the equation somewhere. That's the dealer clincher really. Saturday morning:

Me: Do you want to go to the Ricoh with me and Grandad this afternoon?
Him: No, football is rubbish (fair point).
Me: I'll buy you a hotdog
Him: I'm in.

Sorted.

ITD?

Tell the marketing department ASAP. It could be the modern version of "pop and crisps"!

Good idea. Free hotdog with every ticket. They'd be queueing round the stadium.

Gotta go, lunchtime over.

Hes shite and always will be! I agree he only came back because some fans insist on worshipping him. He only got an extension last season because he played a certain amount of game. Altho with SISU in charge, i think they'd have offered him one anyway. I also think they will renew it this time round too! They fail to see whether a player is good enough for a new contract or not and just take a chance and offer them one anyway!

Shows how easy it is to earn a contract with CCFC nowadays when even the players no longer play well when it comes to earning a new contract, yet they get one anyway!

New contract? I wouldn't give the waster the steam off my piss. When he left us he did offer something, a bit of pace, cutting in from the left, decent shot but now he spends most of the game trying desperately hard not to get involved, literally hiding if there's a break on, never tracking back and basically he's just a passenger and in our current parlous state we cannot afford passengers. Bell is nearly as bad with lightweight Baker not far behind. I am reserving judgement on Deegan but so far he has failed to impress. However seeing as the useless Bell and Baker got new deals its only logical that Sheff will get one too.

I thought he was in our best 5 or 6 players last season. Even under Hoofroyd. Agree that he's been pretty tosh for most of this season, Reading aside (when he was clear MOTM). He was vital to the diamond, which is partly why it isn't working anymore. I actually thought he did OK when moved wide-left 2nd half: closed down, and a lovely pass to Lukas in the move for our goal.

I thought McSheffrey was a disgrace. Slow overweight & not interested. His support 2 the full back was shocking. However, the most criminal thing is the complete lack of leadership & direction by most of senior players. Bell, McSheffrey, Baker & to a lesser extent Clingan should be ashamed of themselves. Minimal effort shown. Youngsters putting in more effort. As for Freddy, vile attitude.

That is unfair. In his first spell at the club McSheffery was as good a left sided Championship player as you would see and I think the fact he was born in Highfield Road was a nice touch. He had a great eye for goal and has scored some of the best we have seen at the Ricoh. Sadly he had now past his sell by date and seems 4 years older than he actually is - so time to say goodbye but with fondness not spite.
