He's been a long time without a permanent club though. Even his Dundee Utd gig was only short term.

Wasn’t he on trial at Burton Albion earlier in the season?

As a small aside, I know it's been asked before, but how the hell has Biamou ended up without a club for a year? Has he actually officially retired yet?!? Did he let himself go after being released?

I mean, if Hudlin can get a contract at Huddersfield, it's surely not unreasonable to have expected him to rock up at a Harrogate or a Barrow is it? And even failing that, Solihull down the road!

I met Max on Saturday. Like most of the ex-players I have met, he was a nice, unassuming bloke. I asked him if he had retired and he said no, he has been injured since leaving City. He said he hoped to be back in football next season.

Hes 33 next season and hasn’t really played for 2 years

He’s really a national league player who had a Roy of the Rovers impact for a bit like Houchen

Solihull Moors is at best now his level or Nuneaton.

It’s easy to forget they’re just normal young lads. They’re not all big characters who like being in the public eye. Many are quite reserved and find the meet and greet stuff awkward or even overwhelming. The way fans talk about footballers online no wonder so many end up with mental health issues. I think some forget they are just people too.

I know Max has done bits of coaching and suppose to be decent with the youngsters.

Weird thing is I couldn’t imagine Gyokeres or Godden scoring goals like Biamou’s against Swindon, Yeovil, Notts C and Peterborough.

Before people purposely misconstrue this just to have a pop, in no way am I saying he’s anywhere near the level of Gyokeres.

No they just actually consistently score goals. Houchen cup final header was a goal no one else could score but next season I think he scored 2 league goals

Could we have a role for max as a player/striker coach?

Totally agree. Not sure why Robins got rid of MB and then wasted a shit load of cash on Waghorn who was fucking useless.

Max scored some of the best goals ever I've seen. That goal at Peterborough was phenomenal.

Exactly this.

Keeping Max rather than signing Waghorn would have meant an extra £8-9k per week to spend / invest on other areas of the squad.

Signing 31 year old Waghorn, with no sell on potential, for high wages (sign on fee?) was one of the worst bits of business in the past few years.

Max was a reasonable back up 2 years ago. Waghorn was a waste of a much needed million quid.

Lads , let's look logically , waghorn has pedigree at this level , Robins probably assumed he could get something from him .. you'd argue before he had covid he was working well with vik ..

Keeping biamou would have added nothing to the squad either

By the end of this season he won’t have played for 2 seasons, which says it all.

But the difference in wage would. If they were both £3k per week I’d agree. Waghorn was apparently £13k per week.

That’s my point.

At the time most of said that Waggler was an upgrade on Biamou which turns out it wasn’t really. Now maybe if Waggler had a few more selfies with people in the past we could wheel him out on “legends day” in the future.

Agree.

Had been the key word.

But we are comparing 13k per week v (guess) 3 k per week.

Waghorn was a waste of money and has flopped. No ifs no buts. Flopped. Waste of money and not even a “punt”.

Hillsner was a punt. Early 20’s ex Germany u20’s int - could have turned out a steal but ended up a lemon. Dacosta and Jobello too. (We’ve signed some shite haven’t we?) but I could always see the logic.

Anyway. Waghorn has gone (probably still costing us some wages even now) let’s just hope the next time one of our recruitment team suggests handing a 31 year old middling journeyman a £1m plus contract that Doug throws his hairbrush at him.

I'm genuinely flabbergasted at some of the stuff people are saying about Biamou on this thread.
Nice bloke, cult hero, but good enough for a top 10 squad in the championship?
Come on, for fucks sake!

Not with us. He was a monumental failure. Biamou wasn't the greatest but at least he contributed something and wasn't a large drain on our resources. This is the one and probably only time I will agree with the Philosopher.

You can't forsee what 2 years will bring though .. Once a contract is signed its signed .. waghorn looked to be developing a decent relationship with vik , then was out and covid seemed to knacker him .. how are we to judge what is to happen ? It was a decent signing on paper

Has it worked no ..

This is all a bit mental. Not going to dig Biamou out as he was fine for us, but the way his career's gone after leaving us, if you wanted to save cash on Waghorn then you may as well have signed Postman Pat.

At the time of signing Waghorn has had a much better career than Gyok.

Gyok of course was a “punt”. Same as Walker. Young, with potential.

If anyone on here thinks Waghorn offered value for money or even potential then…

Oh I give up. Pointless

I agree. It looked a good signing at the time but proved to be disastrous. Some players fall off badly around 30. Others can continue well past and can even improve like McFadzean.
