He really just ties everything together so well. What a signing! He has had such a positive impact on the team and how we play. His set pieces like corners and free kicks have really helped us improve and his through balls are a joy to watch.
It’s no surprise that we have won all but one game that he has started in.
We’ve only lost two since he joined but the Leeds game he didn’t come on till the 62nd minute and by that point it was already 2-0

Big shout for Jamie Allen though.
Sunday league equivalent of taking subs, organising lifts, breaking ankles and running the blackout

He’d run the line for another match after as well

The player we have needed for years. And the best thing is he hasn't a clue what the treatment table looks like. Built of rock and steel and not glass like some others. He missed as many games waiting for his transfer to go through as he had in the previous 4 seasons.

4m for a player nearly 30 is a lot of money for us but worth every penny.

Fantastic signing. Unbelievable player and a joy to watch. He brings a calmess to the rest of the team with his retention and availability for the ball and links the play so well between MF and Def. To top it off seems to carry a good personality too.

The surprise is that some people are surprised how good he is. You only have to have watched one of the games he’s played against us in the last 5 years to see that he’s one of the best midfielders in the championship. No surprise he’s doing it for us too.

Knew he could pass. Today first time I seen him really battle too.

Love seeing him drop back to the centre backs to get the ball. Such a nice structure to our game

Some people take too much notice of what supporters say for the club a player is leaving. They made out they were happy he was leaving as he stifled their attacking play with sideways and backwards passing.

Yes he does do both but all in aid of ball retention. When he sees a player in a good position his ability to ping a ball to them is excellent.

What do we think so far then?

He's clearly a great player but there's mistakes in him and I'm not convinced he's comfortable in our side with the options around him. Will be interesting to see what he looks like with an extended period of time with Sheaf.

A lot more to come I hope.

Plays the quarterback role very effectively against teams we should beat where we have a high level of possession. Yesterday's mistake was uncharacteristic but in summary I think he's what we need to help us get out of this league, but if we get up we'd need another upgrade.

Allen has done a brilliant job recently but Lampard’s next job is to get Sheaf back to his best. Him, Grimes and Rudoni is what we should be aiming for in the middle.

Thought that Sideways Sammy’s review of his first 10 games was pretty fair reading.

10 Games In: Matt Grimes

A statement signing in January, Matt Grimes has changed elements of this Coventry City team with his impact, just how positive that impact has been is a matter of debate. Brought in to be both the …

I'm hoping to see Sheaf sitting with Grimes further fwd. Lampard talked about him being used in a more advanced role more than once when he signed.

I think he's a really fine player, who is entitled to have the off day, the same as everybody else.

I agree with everything you have said but for one thing. Grimes is easily one of our best players. I would be looking at strengthening most positions before looking for a replacement for Grimes.

So he has made a mistake that's cost us a goal. Had to happen at some stage. But otherwise he has been solid and has started many of our attacks. Most of our players don't have that extra second in their head that will be needed if and when we go up.

There certainly is. Even top team players misplace the odd pass. Difference is though they have 4 more top class players behind him that can help correct it. Unfortunately we had 3 defenders run to the ball like primary school kids leaving 2 Burnley players completely unmarked in the 6 yard box.

Like him but too many have painted him as a player who can do no wrong and just look daft when, as a championship player, he makes mistakes. Yesterday not being his first error.

How many bad games has he had for us?

Show me the perfect player that never makes a mistake. He gives us the freedom to go forward. He even starts a lot of it himself with his excellent passing range. Very rarely loses the ball even though he is frequently given it when tightly marked.

Isn't it strange how we look for someone to blame when we're not winning every game. We just showed Burnley for what they are. Their two goals came from our mistakes.

I'd prefer to start calling our players not good enough if we can't beat the teams we are about to play and not the last two games we have lost where they are both in the two automatic promotion places. Since our run started in January we have lost to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Derby. Derby won 4 on the bounce by playing backs to the wall. We won all the rest.

Perfect player? Never makes a mistake? Micheal Doyle, whoah, Kelly in the middle, whoah, never gives the ball away.

I like Grimes he was clearly an upgrade we needed in midfield but we need him playing with an in form Sheaf, Allen has done well but we have seen it with Sheaf playing with lesser players, the onus is on them and they have to do there job and others around them instead of concentrating on the job in hand...If we get promoted though we need an upgrade on the pair of them

Grimes has looked good. Best to imagine how the results would of gone without him playing the last 10 games or so. Hopefully Sheaf starts Weds, as I am looking forward to seeing these two as a partnership

Midfield is definitely still lacking we need something different in there with box to box energy alongside Grimes and Rudoni.

I'm sticking with Allen, thought he was very much captain material questioning the ref decision's on many occasions.

No-where near enough though. Jamie Allen should in the refs ear just with little questions and pointing bits out from minute 1. He only got involved later on when it became more blatant what Burnley were doing.

He is very comfortable on the ball, has a great technique and his awareness of what’s around him is impressive. He has the ability to make us tick.

However, at times we seem adamant we have to play through him - similar to Sheaf at the start of last season - which has clear downsides. I’d also like to see him dominate games more. We needed more from him against the bigger teams, for example.

Don’t get me wrong, I like him, I’m a big fan of ball players but there’s certainly an element of him being the blue eyed boy.
