Maybe, but I'm sure I read somewhere yesterday that MG is considered the second best midfielder in this league.

North Leics…...unfortunately
He needs to keep up his record of appearing in every game this season.
I don't think it works like Primary school where you get called up in assembly at the end of the year and presented with a 100% attendance certificate by the Head.

3.5 accepted yesterday, just structure of payments to be finalised

He will be here today or tomorrow

Paterson still training with us, both parties keen on a short term deal, international clearance the hold up

BTA Blackburn, Stoke, Hull, QPR keen
So much interest in BTA. I’d be keen to keep him but I understand selling him to get Grimes

If this happens you'd imagine Dean Austin's influence has been limited and Lampard has been given more authority as this just is not the type of signing we make off the last few years
I don't think you can know that, it's just a guess based on a negative reputation.

Or hadn’t hired Thorn.

It's a trivial argument. Even without Thorn we would've almost certainly gone down the season after as SISU would've pushed through further player sales to cover the losses and once again, as we saw in the summer of 11/12, barely any incomings would've been brought in.

I just read that he's played 301 out of the last 305 games for Swansea. Fucking insane!

Man that year was such a cluster fuck of bad decisions. Least the kit was nice

I suspect we'd have gone down in the following season or two regardless, it was a such as despairing spiral of shite by that point.

Not in any way arguing Thorn wasn't a disastrous, cheapest option available, type of apppointment though.
Nah. If we’d hired a competent manager we’d have been better off in general. His appointment was a disaster and it was obvious he’d take us down even by September. It’s one example of why fans shouldn’t be listened to.

Masterstroke getting him in training to ease Grimo's transition. Once he's in the door, fuck him off.

I really don't think it would've made much difference. Assuming a more competent manager was appointed instead of Thorn and he would've kept us up, the season following would've been a huge uphill battle.

Cranie, Keogh, Clingan and Lukas would've gone regardless who was manager as SISU were intent on slashing the wage bill to cut overheads and he would've likely been left to compile a mismatched squad out of loans, free agents and academy players during the summer of 12/13.

Thorn was a bad manager, infact he was barely a manager but he still dealt a shit hand

Pretty sure he turned up for training one day in his second pre season and asked where Bigirimana was and he'd been flogged without his knowledge

As we have mentioned as well the club were openly desperate to flog Juke as well as Ben Turner at the start of the season

We were ran appallingly over those years

The total wage bill in the last published accounts in total was £18.5m. Binks is not paid £1.5m per year.

It comes from something that @quinn1971 put up

It showed Binks on £30k a year and total wages at £10m (even though they were £18m)

It shows Jack Burroughs earning more than MVE

I feel we will need another loan striker if he goes. It just leaves us with Simms and Norman currently. No guarantee Wright comes back and completes the season from his injury.

The plan is (or was) to get another winger to replace BTA (hence interest in Thomas and Matondo)

We’re only going to play 1 up front and have 3 solid options. We definitely do not need a fourth.

Besides, nobody will loan a player us who will not play

Agree, it was arecipe for disaster. A decent manager may have kept us up that season but the rot was well and truly set in by then, we'd been circling the drain for years.

You only have to look at the budget available for the following summer when we dropped down to L1 to give you an indication of how that summer window would've panned out if we'd somehow remained in the Championship.

Loans that would've cost the club nothing, cheap free agents replacing players sold on for fees, and a reliance on players fresh out of the academy to fill numbers.

SISU were literally stripping cost out of every single facet of the club from top to bottom. Over a period of 3 transfer windows the playing squad was completely decimated.

Thorn was dreadful, but it's pretty obvious that regardless of who was in place that there was literally no way to prevent the inevitable. Impossible task.
