It's as if people forget that spending well beyond our means is what got us in this situation in the first place.

Exactly- Robins works within his means and is motoring. Nobody else has done that, they've spent plenty of time in the CET moaning but Robins has kept schtum and got on with it. He is the best manager we have had in decades, relying on coaching, game plans & man management instead of waving chequebooks and complaining about his budget.

Robins spent nothing (apart from wages) in gaining promotion to League one, he brought in players such as Mcnulty, Hyam, Biamou, Kelly on free transfers who now hold a value or have been sold. He took probably the worst team this club has seen (the squad that got relegate to L2) and transformed it into a team good enough for promotion without spending a penny on transfers.

By doing that he has gained the owners trust and support, that is why they are happy to reinvest (not financially back) him. He then made us a competitive L1 side after reinvesting a portion of the McNulty sale in Chaplin whilst continuing to develop frees/youth players.

Anyone trying to say we are where we are simply because "Robins has been backed" needs to sit down and take a breath or two.

Good post but literally no one is saying that.

We aren’t comparing us to other teams, we are comparing Robins to previous managers.

As you have been repeatedly told, he has been given more funds from the player sales than any other manager of recent times. How many other managers were given £750k to sign a striker?

No one is critiquing the job Robins has done but you cannot deny he has been supported with funds. Maybe that is a credit to the confidence the board have in him.

I can deny it- its a fact. Chaplin & Bayliss- must be 3m between them, we spent 750k. And when you're third with a game in hand you earn that- who would have given Pressley the bones of a million to spend? He didn't have the ability, as his subsequent career has proven.

So he was supported with funds and Presley wasn’t. Thanks for clearing that up.

Erm Chaplin cost 500,000 to start with

You kind of are though aren't you. Every positive about Robins, you have a comeback on it to make out its not down to managerial ability as opposed to "being backed in the transfer market".

I said two posts ago that Robins has done well. One post ago I said it’s a credit to Robins that he has gained the confidence of the board with his ability. So no, I am not saying that.

Perhaps if Presley got £2m rather than a bunch of a free transfers he may still be in the job or left for a bigger club

The sign of a good/ great manager is what they can do with what they've got plus maybe one addition here & there, and to self fund by sales of players you found & brought on. Pressley didn't have it, Mowbray didn't have it- nobody has had it apart from Robins.

It’s slightly easier to succeed when you can sign Matt Godden rather than Josh McQuiod

Enough whataboutery- had Pressley developed his players and generated funds then he would have had that opportunity, but he didn't and he didn't. And look at him since- proof is all around- Robins is our best manager since John Sillett and cold hard facts say that if he takes us up he goes straight to the all time number 3.

Are you trolling? Pressley played Callum Wilson..

Pressley coached Wilson from a reserve striker into the best striker in the league

Also Christie and also Maddison praise him

Didn’t he also get players like Clarke, Daniels and Conor Thomas playing well in league one who have all failed to replicate that level of performance again. I didn’t rate Pressley before I get accused of that

He spent £125,000 on Clarke Harris

Nothing to do with Pressley, he had him for one season when we played our kamikaze/ brainless attacking style of football. Wilson shone at the expense of any attempt to defend.

And the player you are quoting Chaplin, Robins failed to get much out of him and now he’s gone up a level and has scored more than any of our players.

Correct they haven’t had the money from the sale of the players they bought on

Interesting that Leon Clarke has been brought up and its been asked why Presley wasn't given any of the Clarke sale to reinvest. Clarke was another of Robins' free transfers who turned into a profit. This is why they allow him to reinvest, they trust in his judgement, they clearly didn't trust Pressley's.

It’s nothing to do with trusting judgement
