Just needs some clever manipulation of the accounts-where's OSB when you need him?

Ha ha. If they genuinely do have the money and really want to go for the prem they would find a way around it.

It's the only way I can see they getting out now though.

Or put the club in a position where it has a platform to go for the prem then sell.

I have to admit, when i heard Mark Robins had been appointed, i thought it would just be another manager who would do nothing but sink us further into oblivion, but he's proved me 100% wrong. He's brought in some amazing players, stood up for the club in the board room, rallyed up the fans and gave us all belief that the good days are on their way back. We've gone from no prospects at the bottom ont he table, to play-off posibilities and 2 possible trips to Wembley. What a turn around. He's got the scouting eye of Andy Thorn but he's got more managerial talent and more hair. SISU have finally done something good for this club. Onwards!!

Assuming we get promoted, we would sign some players who have bigger wage demands etc. we'd spend, say, 8m+ on wages a year I reckon.

Brizzle may pay 20m in wages a year (and are still getting relegated :p) but there are teams who spend a lot less and are doing well, e.g. Peterborough.

Bristol went mad on wages when Coppell became manager and everyone thought they were going to get promoted, they were wrong and are fecked financially now.

No we won't. The telegraph estimated that our relegation wage bill was about £5.5-6m and we were still losing millions. we're alteady planned to lose £3m this year so i really cant see us spending much more than we did when we got relegated

It's very difficult to get promoted to the PL without serious investment and even then you can fall short. This year the relegated sides have been poor which opened the door up for the likes of Cardiff and Leicester to spend their way to the top of the pile; what Blackpool achieved was the exception rather than the rule and the new TV and parachute payment rules make it ever harder to compete without a sugar daddy. The club definitely needs someone with the resources to drive the club forward.

Bang on. The whole Southampton and Norwich back-to-back promotions mean that already expectation levels are high even though we are yet to get out of league one.

That being a massive assumption in itself Stu. We have given ourselves just too much to do I think with the awful start to the season-I would of course love us to go up this year but if we don't then we all know why it is; it is not through any failure at all on Robins' part, rather a massive error in judgement from the board at the end of last season. That being the case, and with weak teams coming down from the Championship, a promotion push will be a realistic aim.

If we fail to go up this season I would fully expect us to be pushing automatic promotion if not the title next season.

Crystal palace are doing ok this season an we know the trouble they have been through, before you point to holloway the club were already in a great position when he joined. Also I don't imagine Swansea spent loads to get where they are?
The main clubs guilty of chucking money around are Cardiff and Leicester

Money is a short cut but you can still mount a challenge through steady progress over a few seasons with the right manager an sufficient backing

Try another angle ...

Reid - midfielder
Dowie - striker
Coleman - defender
Adams - defender
Thorn - defender
Shaw - defender
Robins - striker

Completely forgot Boothroyd ... he too was a defender in his playing days.

I do think the managers pedigree as a player effects how he organise the team, who he sign, where his focus is.
We have for years been struggling with scoring enough goals ... maybe because the various managers main focus was to prevent the opposition to score.
Now we have a former striker in charge and are scoring goals for fun ... almost.

And if you'd gone back one earlier you get Eric Black, who was a striker. I think his reign was the last time I felt this optimistic as a Cov fan.

I don't think it makes a difference where a manager used to play in his playing days, if he's a good manager, he'll do we'll, regardless!

I'm glad Robins is doing great, although it'll fuel this myth :D

Swansea were able to still spend a bit. Again, my point was not that it's impossible, just very difficult and will only be more so as relegated clubs are handed yet bigger sums for failure.
