In a daft moment, I was imagining that the FA had instructed us to field a side with everyone playing completely out of position

Below is my best stab at it - how many points could we get with this lineup? I don't know whether any outfield players in the squad have ever played in goal. But I reckon Haji could easily keep clean sheets through sheer cool, and launch attacks NFL quarterback-style. No problem for Eccles in that defensive position, Grimes would be a cultured left back, and Simms could demonstrate his new-found timing to repel high balls all day long. I think JDS would genuinely be a very good CM*, with Kitch alongside him as an enforcer. Two very dangerous wingbacks, Saka pulling the strings as a No. 10, and it’s a deadly front two ;)
Apologies to those who are relegated to the bench, a manager has to make difficult decisions sometimes.

----------------Wright--------------------

----Eccles---Simms---Grimes-------

EMC---JDS---Kitching---Van Ewijk

----------------Saka----------------------

-----------Bobby---Torp---------------

* this bit is an actual suggestion

That is a very, very daft moment
Some might say utterly pointless, I couldn't possibly comment.

You're right, it's very daft but strangely enough, tbh there are only two ludicrous choices there. Most of the rest could be contemplated in an unforseen emergency (seeing out time, all subs used ...) because we've got a lot of good footballers. And three of them might even genuinely work.
