He can forget about Norwich. £3.5m we got for him looks a very good deal these last few weeks

Different opinions mate, that's all.

I think our best chance was to try & stay in the game, you think it was to go at them. Impossible to say who's correct but I don't think many managers would have made attacking changes at half-time in that scenario.

To be honest we do need some wingers at the club.
With Luton being capable of creating so many crosses, like they did against a better defensive side like Swansea... It would be nice to have the option of going with 2 banks of 4 to completely stifle their wide men

I shuddered to think what Walker and Godden must have been thinking as he blew all those sitters.

Assuming that McF hadn't walked and given up a penalty I'd still have taken off one of the central midfielders for a striker. We were threatening nothing going forward and giving possession away for fun in our own half.

Sorry G. Second attempt was poor. He was unlucky with the first, and the last was deflected over the bar. How is that an embarrassment? For me the keeper can rightly have the finger pointed at him for numerous failings tonight, but Max really only messed up on the one chance. The other two were unfortunate. When Godden and Walker are fit, I'm sure they'll start ahead of him, but if Max hadn't been here you'd have been watching Baka up front instead for a period of this season.

For me it's not about being shocked or disappointed with where we are, because staying up would be a massive achievement. It's how we've ended up where we are that frustrates.

Most of the goals we concede are gifts. But, we don't seem to learn from them. That's what annoys me more than anything. Add to that that we struggle to score, it magnifies every goal we gift.

This.. I can accept when the other team is just better. It’s when we constantly shoot ourselves in the foot and repeat the mistakes time and time again.

we talked about them learning from it at the start of the season, and we expected them to do so. We’re 3/4 of the way in and the same crappy red cards, silly penalties, defensive howlers are still happening.

what’s worse is then when we do get chances we fuck them up.

I agree that the first was just unlucky, as the angle was closing quickly - although a person with more skill would have chipped. For the third, a more composed finish would have been to the right of the goal, instead, he chooses to shoot in the direction of 3 luton players. Regardless, max isn't to blame for tonight - the defence was shocking.

Sure, and I wasn't up for anything drastic once the game was ended as a contest. Wilson's stupidity put paid to that

All of that was down to Wilson. That aerial weakness cost us the game, With the size of outfield players, you need a 6' 4" keeper who will pluck the ball out of the air and command his box.

Robins knew game was over at ht. To go all out risked getting a heavy defeat. It’s only Roy of rovers (and once in a lifetime v Portsmouth) where you get back in a game like that when having a player sent off and 2 behind. Yes Luton eased off second half but Robins will be fairly satisfied with how second half played out.
He will know that Saturday is the ‘more important’ game in terms of picking up points.

Agree with most of this. I know you’re not openly criticising Dabo, but feel he (like Rose) has had a couple injuries that have never allowed him a proper run of games to get him in good form.
Accept your point about Hamer. He’s not been as good in the last two months, but still merits his place, and I’m desperate to keep.

I know I’ll cop flack for this, but Kelly was poor tonight. When he came back in the squad after being injured in the Wycombe game, he showed he brought us balance and game management. I think Matty James can bring more to the team overall. Kelly’s wise and experienced head is very useful in a young squad. He doesn’t have enough skill for me. Worth keeping but not an obvious starter next year.

Dabo for me is frustrating as too often he tries get around behind the defender to cross the ball out wide. He’s got the power and skill to be more direct and take the ball into the box.

He didn’t have any sitters:
Unlucky with the first...looked in all the way until hit post:
Second should have done better but ball did bobble...but yes should have hit target:
Great block on the third...player threw himself at it ...it was on target.

Three good half chances...didn’t see any as sitters.
More disappointed with his hold up play (only once did he bring others in) ...if we play him as lone striker we need to get players supporting far more quickly than we do and he needs a better first touch.

Not a chance in hell McCallum gets into Norwich's team next season. I have a really horrible feeling if we stay up he'll end up coming back.

You've got plenty of case studies to try and answer that question, that first half has been repeated countless times this season. Start brightly, miss one or two glorious chances, concede an awful goal then perhaps concede another by or just after half time.

I think we will scrape staying up but will have made it so so much more difficult than it should have been. And pretty much entirely self inflicted

We do not have anyone at the club suited to leading the line and even if we did they would still struggle as we have packed the side with defensive midfielders.

Genuinely don’t think we have enough players at the level we need them.

The only ones who I think compete

Dabo but he’s been unfit
Osti and he’s carried the defence
Kelly been injured and lacks pace
James but we’ve needed more
Ohare speaks for himself
Hamer but not since January

That’s 6 players who are good enough. Others may grow into being good enough

McCallum
Sheaf
Rose?
Walker

But that’s the reason we are struggling and really if we finish where we are now that will be just fine

I was watching the game and then watching the recording of "Unforgotten" from yesterday with my wife. Apologies for the lacking of piping in the interim.

Max was let down this evening by a lack of commitment and skill from the other players. I note that Godden and Walker, even when playing together as two 'up top' failed to reach the pinnacle that Max set by missing three clear-cut chances. If I were Robbings, I would have the pair of them studying Max's game and learning.
