what is the purpose of pre workout? does it make you stronger during weights?

if not i dont see purpose of it. i am awake at gym so dont need a "hit" lol

just have a black cofee before you leave house for gym

I was sceptical tbh. I tried it though and it makes a difference to me. I can do an extra couple of reps in a set. I need less rest in between sets and I find I'm more focussed. How much of this is a placebo effect I'm not sure. But it works for me.

fair enough

i started back on 'noob' weights so right now its manageable but working me. a nice balance.

week by week it gets harder though

actually gives me an idea. roll call time! everyone list their current and personal best bench press! macho macho man lol. nah no judging just interested

my current bench is 45kgx10
my personal best is 85kg for 1 rep.

Helps give a bit of a push compared to without, a lot more focused as well.

Depends which it is, I've had one where i was just staring at a light on the ceiling but managed to do 3 sets without realising Weird.

Benching atm 70kg 4 sets of 10
Not sure what my one rep best is haven't had a spotter for a while.

Tend to try and increase the weight every couple of weeks by a 2kg.

That's the only thing, can't go too mad

I've been doing 5 x 5 of between 70 and 75kg and worry about going a bit higher because the last 2 or 3 are a bit of a struggle and without a spotter it's hard.

Other thing that annoys me is how thin the bench is, I am all for helping with balance but it doesn't help having to worry about being on it properly.

You build up your triceps it help push more on the bench, depending what your goal is if its to increase your bench strenght id usually do chest twice a week 4 sets first 2 sets 6-8 failure then last 2 sets 10-12 then later that week 2.5lbs or 5lbs what ever your feeling same again do it for 4 weeks then try bench your max for 1-2 reps see how you go, if your trying burn fat and build muscle can do 5 sets 30,25,20,15,10 as reps go down increase weight till you get to 10 reps heaviest then go back up 10,15,20,25,30 decreasing the weight its called dtp can do it with chest arms legs back very good exercise.

Thought I'd be hardcore and do the gym and then circuits after.

2 hours did about 1100 calories and then 6 bag rounds so probably another couple of hundred (Fitbit is shite and wont work with gloves on )

Had Thermopures in between gym on the way and felt fresh as a daisy! None of the burning sensation and the itch so you don't feel it as such.

If there's no difference after a week I'm getting a KFC every day.

Honestly, going non stop at a bag hurts more than any weights with muscles I never knew existed Especially when the blokes stood watching you so you can't just dance around it and give it a haymaker every minute.

Sensible eating and modest exercise have helped me lose 24lbs since new year. It's taken a bit of willpower, mind!

For the first time in about 6 years i am set to be officially not 'overweight', and feel great. On a real rolitwith it.

I've lost over a stone in just the last week.

Have had a really bad bout of flu though and barely eaten a thing at all.

Good shout that, always worry they might bring the door frame down though. Funny though years I spent in the gym with modest gains. Back to body resistance and massive change, convenient too. Even just watching the footy periodically got down did push ups. 5 x 20 good form and muscles ache far more than going to gym

I always worry about those bars

Other thing is motivation, I bought a smith machine for 300 with 100kg of weights and used it twice because I couldn't get "in the zone" out the back.

On another note. What would be people's thought on a decent weight for a bicep dumbell curl with say 12 reps. I'm average build but with reasonable definition. Not a body builder by any stretch

Yep I get the motivation thing easy to be distracted. My issue is actually finding a free hour or so to get to the gym so sporadic as and when stuff if I have 15 mins spare is the best I can do sometimes

Hard to say, I much prefer barbell curls but that's because Im lazy and they are easier to adjust the weights on! Same with hammer curls!

Could you get a set where you can change the weights and start off at like 12 and work your way up?

Thanks - in fairness, much of it was excess weight I'd piled on between mid-November and New Year, doing no exercise, eating junk food and boozing every day, so there was some "low hanging fruit" that would have fallen off anyway once the party season ended.

Yeh currently have some cast iron weights. Doing 15 on the dumbbells x 12. Feels like it's hard but not going to knacker anything which is the key in your 40's. Interestingly ( sure it's not far off ) but exercise wise still haven't seen any decrease in any exercise performance on the last 10-15 years just more prone to strains and need more time between sessions. Same running times too

im 2 weeks into restarting though. i would say decent weight would be 14-18k i guess?

main thing is do what you can do and try to increase it week in week out.

as for last night i didnt do hiit so a lazy daym, but woke up feeling trimmer than ever so it shows how important diet is!

ya its a slow release protein basically stops your body starving eating into your muscle when asleep after hard workout and cardio session which helps body burn fat tiny bit while your asleep and recovering, zmas help you sleep alot better you wake up fresh as a daisy not groggy ready to go. if you took casien and zmas for 2 weeks then came off them youd def notice the difference in the mornings.
