i believe the players you mention were awarded extended contracts by that football guru, ken dulieu, after he carefully assessed their abilities

Can anyone remember anything that David Bell has done this season? How can a player contribute so little to a game. I genuinely forgot he was playing last night until he was subbed

Thorn in charge of contracts was he?
and he didn't bring anyone in because he thought the current squad was big enough and strong enough did he ?

I understand they were offered contracts to make them worth something. The closer they are to the end of their contract - the less they are worth.

McPake could be on his way to Hibs, if he was out of contract as per Gunnarsson, Westwood & King then the club would get nothing. As it stands McPake leaving will mean we get a transfer fee.

That fee (even if its only £100,000) will help next years budget, whether it be a transfer budget or continuing to cover the clubs loses.

Would you trust Thorn with any budget

Why wouldn't you trust thorn with a budget?
Look at the players he has got on such a small wage, albeit loans.
Nimely
Norwood
Gardner
And then in the past as chief scout,
Gunnarsson
Westwood
Best.
Then after that you could include Carroll and Henderson who City could of had on the cheap!

I think including Carroll is having a laugh as he didnt even come to the club, so we have to take the word that AT thought he was a good player, although until recently I think Liverpool fans may have disagreed.

This is the same person who scouted Roy O'Donovan, David Bell, Freddy Eastwood, Stephen Wright, amongst others, to give more of a balanced view.

Thorn wasn't really given a budget.

If you recall that was Orange Kens job. Thorn gave his list of names (le Fondre, McDonald etc) to the orange man to get on board.

How long have you been director of football and what does that role involve?
I have been chairman since March and during that time have built up a close working relationship with Andy. Where I get involved is in budgets and contracts, and I leave all the main parts of our football operations to Andy and the excellent team he has around him.

Not that I believe much he said but he must have done something whilst he was at the club.

Carroll and Henderson are just stupid fairytales why did no other club sign them then.

Best signed 6 months before Thorn started!

Westwood was Div 1 goalkeeper of the year. You don't need a scout for that.

Nimely Thorn said would solve our goalscoring issues!

Eastwood and Wright were Coleman choices and O'Donovan was Boothroyd panicking because we didn't have any strikers.

David Bell has been attrocious this season. I can't remember him putting any decent crosses in or beating a man, let alone assist or score. The last 2 games have been like playing with 10 men because of Bell.

Even Ferguson makes mistakes in the transfer market-no scout and no manager exists who makes the perfect signing each and every time; it just doesn't happen. For every Ronaldo there's a Djemba-Djemba and a Kleberson...

Bell had played for Norwich & Luton in the championship. Can't see he would have been recommended by a scout. Would be managers choice I'd imagine. Thorn would have scouted the more obscure ones like Mifsud, Gunnarsson and for a balanced view, Robbie Simpson.

Robbie Simpson wasn't a bad deal - we signed him from a prolific Conference goalscoring record for £15k and sold him on having not done a lot for £500k - to Lee Clark who some want as our manager!

Bebe who they signed for £8 million and are now desperately trying to flog to Besiktas for £2 million; one of the most bizarre signings in Fergie's tenure that.

Thorn commented at that time that this was good business by the club to tie up such players on long deals.

I'll find the quote if you like......?

Manager Andy Thorn told the club's official website: "Bell and McPake have signed new deals committing them to the club for the next couple of years.

"Belly has been a revelation since we took over and after the injury troubles he's had he is now looking forward to spending more time in the first team.

"James also missed a lot of football last year with his broken back but he's got a few 90 minutes under his belt now and he's only going to get better.

"I brought both players into the club when I was chief scout and both are players I'd admired for quite a while."

:facepalm::facepalm:

But AT will ignore his mistakes and that of the players and after the 46th game of the season finally find his tongue and speak out over the administration at the club.....

We could see that as supporting the fans and finally recognising/highlighting the pricks that are SISU...or look at the timing and see it as deflecting any blame from himself and some of the senior players which he seems to have mollycoddled all season.

And this is the "miracle worker"?

Its all IFs and BUTs and MAYBEs - BUT,

IF Thorn actually thought this, then you have to question his judgement.
IF SISU did the deals and Thorn DIDN'T want them then you have to question his integrity!

Either way these are NOT the traits of a manager with a lot of ability. These are the words of a man trying to justify his actions!

I don't think it's David Bell he's talking about there.
