The whole Whitefriars thing is why social housing should be run by a democratically accountable body and not an arms length or third sector organisation.

For clarity, no Labour MP voted against this Labour amendment.

71 of the 72 landlords who voted against it were Tories.

Edit: must read the whole thread before posting.

The 'independent' panel put together to 'make all public and private buildings safe as quickly as possible' will be chaired by Sir Ken Knight who has previously said sprinklers should not be fitted retrospectively due to cost. The panel also includes the Chief Exec of BRE, that's the company who has a contract with the Department for Communities and Local Government to ensure the correct building regulations with regards to fire are in place.

Kensington Council have banned the public and press from council cabinet meetings. Open and honest democracy in action.

Astounded to hear this morning that there were only Half hour doors installed in a block housing around 250 families and under test only functioned for fifteen minutes.
Staggering .

So just about one year on the Beeb got in early tonight .
I guess the schedule will be too Rammed We'd/Thurs with WC and Trump success/failure in Singapore.
I suspect we know the answer to that one ,Kims Swiss bank account should be good for a billion or two.
I suspect the answer on Grenfell will take considerably longer, say seven years or so.

The BBC had a really good documentary on Monday night regarding this. I hadn't realised at the time the leader of the local council got up and walked out of the first meeting afterwards as the press were in attendance. Piece of shit.

Pretty disgusting. Not sure the public will accept that. There were warnings about the safety of the building but those in charge chose to do nothing to save money.

How can you then turn round and blame the fire brigade when what you were warned about happens?

Its a fucking disgrace that nearly 160 residential tower blocks (social housing) are still death traps wrapped up in this highly flammable cladding/insulation combo.......

One L.A (Salford,I believe) had the audacity to attempt to charge the residents a premium for their 24 hour fire warden who has been put in place while the cladding remains.

99% agree, however the delay in changing the instruction to residents from "staying put" to "run for your lives" was a live incident management call.......the long delay before making that call to evacuate in all probability costs lives, so it needs to be investigated.

The thing with that is isn't the usual thing to do in a block of flats to stay put? Think I saw a documentary that in a normal block of flats without that cladding then the fire wouldn't have spread like it did.

How would the fire brigade have known different to be able to say?

Think any sane person would recognise that.
It seems the question is around the timing being out by around 1-1.5 hrs IMO.

Not sure on the numbers here as I'm sure I've read there are 150 high rise blocks in Birmimgham alone, that sounds high to me .
Given all that, £400M won't really scratch the surface of this problem, and just learned that the £400M is coming from the affordable homes budget, meanwhile the DUP £1.5B and Grammar Schools £50M exemplify how easy it is to fund when your idealogies align.

If you look at videos of how the fire spread (made publicly available by enquiry) you can tell that after 10-15mins there was no way the brigade was ever going to get it under control. There was even a video of them trying to damp the fire and the water wasn't going high enough.

I think there is a breakdown of professionalism by many organisations, building control, contractors, fire brigade and the building owners and of course the ,makers of the panels who should never have sold them for the purpose for which they were used.

Either they were chasing the 'save the world' by insulation and missing the very important and basic fire safety issues or they were simply greedily chasing profits.

Virtually no one should escape blame.
