Started this thread last season when it was rumoured he was going to be sold . Made a post regarding it on another thread about how much I thought it would be a mistake as I thought then as I do now that he is a very good player at our level .
Today in all the chaos and calamity around the goals we were conceding he was still cajoling and leading those around him .
He is now , for me , one of the first names on the team sheet and our captain. As I've said watching him the only thing that will stop him potentially playing at the top level is his pace but aside from that he has everything else in abundance and is still improving

I love how a win makes people glass half full. Had the game ended 3-2 Derby or even 3-3 the defensive situation and conceding 3 goals in a game would be under the microscope. Look at the 3rd Derby goal and the way one of our defenders heads the ball, not away, but towards the danger zone and a Derby player. That was poor and it's just great that we were so clinical at the other end that it didn't matter. However, over a season we will need to cut those errors out.

Specifically on Kitch, I think he is a top player and getting better all the time. I really like the way he occasionally drives the play rapidly carrying the ball out of defence into the midfield. He seems deceptively fast with the ball at his feet.

The problem with our centre backs is their best attributes are on the ball. Thomas in the other box and Kitchings drive and long passing. Neither are great at defending their box or spotting danger or generally organising a defence. Either would probably be OK with a smarter defender who can guide them a bit.

One of Kitchings biggest assets is his organisational skills , watch him in a game and you will see how much he does . I think once Brau gets up to speed we will have a much more secure defensive unit

A year ago wasn't a big fan of, but he has become a lot more consistent, and I think the captaincy really suits him, and he was very vocal, organising and was always in the referees ear, something opposition teams tend to do more than we do.

We have two very good CBs imo. Not perfect but very good and still room for improvement

Well don't to dean Austin and the recruitment team for assembling a good squad
Both have yet to reach their peak. Liam is 26 next month and Bobby is 24. Wouldn't you say central defenders generally peak at 28/29?

Why does nobody ever give the midfield shit for their shoddy cover and simply blame thomas or kitching 😂

Like 2 centre halves can stop the world irrespective of whats going on around them
They were hopelessly exposed by the fullbacks yesterday too. MvE had a poor game defensively, Dasilva goes without saying.

Lampard described things well. Goals 1 and 2 conceded were ‘uncontrollable’ and their final goal was difficult to defend. You have Carlton Morris in the box who is a threat and the ball falls to one of their players in the box.

Yesterday was a freakish game, I can’t recall anything quite like it. The result was fair and we looked much the better team.

He might talk a lot but we’ve always had a hugely disorganised defence since Lawrence left so clearly what he’s saying isn’t any use. Brau shows no signs of magically turning out CBs into capable defenders I’m sorry. The blame Dasilva for all our defensive woes bollocks on here is the biggest cope.

Use your words Parks. They might even be able to explain our terrible defensive record and the absolute shit show we saw yesterday.

Its Sparks not Parks.

The way we set up exposes the defence. Count the amount of times there were 2v2 opportunities yesterday.

The only way we rectify it is if we sign CB's who are clearly above our level, but the way we set up will always give the opponents opportunities. Similar to whats happening with Liverpoolr recently.

OK but none of this explains why our defending is so poor from set pieces.

Come on Parky stay on topic.

Yesterday the first was a freak free kick that you can hardly blame the defence on.

The second was a penalty.

I don't think set piece defending is such a huge issue. We actually win a lot of first balls from corners and free kicks

“We play like Liverpool so only could have world class defenders” at least doesn’t pretend Jay Dasilva is sabotaging out CBs into guess. 10/10 for originality.

I mean we’re taking over two seasons here so if we’re doing this game by game we’re gonna be here a while. The pen was because our CB can’t defend a cross.

Says the man claiming we can’t defend because we’re too much like Liverpool.

Kitching and Thomas are not great defenders. They’re great on other areas but together they’re rash, the lose their man, they can’t organise a back line or a set piece defence and they’re both prone to giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

Our defence stopped us getting promoted last season both over the season and in the playoffs. It needs improvement and it won’t come from changing left backs. People are going to have to accept we need a better CB. The idea Thomas and a Kitching are the best in the division is absolute bollocks I’m sorry. How you can watch us for the last 18 months and claim the defence is fine is mind blowing to me. Clearly your dealer isn’t on holiday and sells far stronger stuff than mine.

We set up like Liverpool yes. We overload both sides and it leaves us slightly exposed.

I'm in too much of a good mood to talk bollocks with you this morning so I'll let you whip yourself up into a frenzy.

Yeah, I wouldnt write off this back line just yet. We were solid against a defensive hull but struggled with a long ball/set piece focussed derby….theyre good at it shocker !…dasilva is always going to struggle a bit more against a team like them and morris is a handful for starters. A lot of teams won’t like playing them, theyre a bit like Stoke from old in some respects

The fact that they scored a freak but very good first goal direct from free kick (at least partial GK error), iffy pen and then just a poor clearance and a scuffed/miskicked shot doesn’t really tell me much more than a clean sheet v a hull team that sat deep and came for a point. We restricted derby to four shots on target away from home, that doesn’t necessarily smack of a bad defence

As I’ve said before I thought we’d played really well and we desperately unlucky to be drawing let alone losing (I thought some of the reactions at the time were well OTT), just felt like one of those games where everything went their way.

More of a question than a comment this, but when we’re filling our own penalty area to defend set pieces, why are we putting nobody on either post? You stop at least one of those goals yesterday no problem.

Exactly. Derby outscored their xG by quite a bit, we’re not likely to concede 3 goals from 1.48 xG in most games.

I spoke to a couple of Derby fans in the bar after the game and they were v impressed with how dynamic and fluid we were.

I can imagine us having more joy away from home if teams are more likely to be baited into not sitting in front of us. The game seemed very open yesterday, more space for players to run in behind and it played in our favour.
