Footy mad great grandad who died with his kids in the '41 Blitz. Other great grandad who followed City all his life and got to see the cup win on TV in 87, year before he went. My grandad who was there in 67 & 87, and got to see me and my late uncle follow in his footsteps for the checkatrade the year before he passed.

Yes absolutely. To all those no longer with us who gave us the love of football and most especially the love of CCFC a great big ‘Thank You’. Dad you carried my stool up to highfield road before I could see over the wall in the Spion Kop. We sat together for years through all the highs and lows (fa cup glory, last day survivals, relegation, and even would we survive as a club) with you taking me up and in your later years me taking you and your grandson. My son and I have raised a glass to you tonight. You made us Sky Blue.

I'm lucky that my own family that I first attended with are all still with us. However we don't all go together now. Makes me think I should get us all together for a hospitality game next season whilst everyone is still here

My dad, Ken, who took me to my first game in 1970. He had watched City from the 1930s, and remembered "the old five". He died in 2009.

My Mum and Dad who used to go in the 1930's, and my brother who took me as a 4/5 yr old kid (he had some patience) all of them were instrumental in my rite of passage into a Sky Blue!! My Mum died 9 yrs ago this July aged 100 and she still asked how're the City doing. God bless them xxxxx

My dad who loved the City of a Saturday afternoon and the Speedway at night. He saw the glory years and was crest fallen watching our demise. His last words about the City to me just a few years back when we were in League 2 were, "do you ever think they'll get back?"

Dad, now in Sky Blue Heaven, took me as a 5 year old nipper to my first game. Had spent his courting days with Mum at highfield road in the late fifties (he knew how to show a girl a good time)…

25 years was a huge stretch and about 1/3 or more of most peoples expected longevity. We must have lost thousands of City fans in that period. Those halftime memorial boards are hard to watch on remembrance occasions. My Grandparents were all instrumental in my following the City and I lost them early on in that period. At least they never had to experience SISU.

My mum and dad were city supporters since the early 60's, they both passed away 5 years ago. They took me to my first city game in 1983,I was 10 years old and i have been hooked ever since. I love our football club. They would have been so proud right now and I am sure they are looking down with massive smiles.

Have a few dearly departed family and friends who loved the City, sadly passed, but a mention for Carl Goddard, City through and through, not that long gone (drop kicked a gobby Villa fan in The Vauxhall Tavern, around 1978ish, so deserves a shout out for that alone)

My stepdad. Supporter since the early 50s. Died in 2021.

He would have loved seeing us getting our seat back at the top table.

My Grandad died in November 2001, Gordon Strachans last game against Grimsby was his last game so he died 6 months after relegation .I’ve still got his season ticket booklet from that season which has the ticket stubs for the remaining games still in it.

He started going in the 50’s, started taking my Mum in the 60’s who then took me to my first game at in The early 80’s with my Dad.

We have remained season ticket holders ever since, a round trip of 240 miles for each home game.

Mum and Dad are now mid 70’s and I genuinely thought after losing the play off final that they may never see the premier league again.

Its more than just a game, more than just promotion, this is generations of supporting Coventry City Football Club.

my dad died a couple of years ago. so at least he saw us turn the corner, and got to see that we were on the way back. shame he missed this season, he would have loved it.

used to take me to games from the early-mid 70s. usually in the west end, but sometimes in the spion kop if it was sold out.
we used to walk from longford to highfield road along the canal. ironic that i now live not too far from hr, and have walked along the canal to a few games just for the memories.

Great thread. These were supposed to be my dads retirement years where we'd get more time to go to the football together. He worked a lot at weekends my dad and he never got the pay off of all the free time you get when you're an old fart.
I know he'd have loved this. Thanks for taking me to all those games in the 90s old man.

Nice thread Daz....so many people have passed. We really are the lucky ones seeing the rising of our club back to the top flight again, so its good to remember them and talk of them so that they are part of it in some small way. RIP Uncle Bob...we would have been on the beer celebrating but I will have your scarf with me for Wrexham, and I'm also taking your youngest grandson up.
