In all sincerity, it’s way too early to be making this post especially when we didn’t even lose and came closest to scoring.

Think we need to reserve some judgement as day one is always a bit false and doesn’t define anything of your season.

I think with a couple of additions and a fully fit Haji Wright we’ll see a huge difference

It is obviously way too early to judge, but some of the same concerns as last year are still there (understandable I guess when it's the same outfield lineup).

A new striker should make all the difference.

Wind up bollocks

I have just read 3 separate match reports from that match and they all say it was game with no real quality and plenty of mistakes. Derby were the worse culprits and Stoke punished them late on to put a gloss on the score line.

That’s very easy to look up and to make up that Stoke played really well is odd at best.

I will put it on record...I am still not convinced with Lampard 100%, he seems a nice guy obviously intelligent and speaks well, he has raised the profile of the club but it fizzled out last season when it mattered and today wasn't great...yes yes yes I know its the first game and at least we didn't play so much from me to you at the back today but he needs to start changing us into a ruthless winning team before his time runs out
Didnt Derby fans warn us when he came that Lampard struggles tactically when his initial tactics dont work against teams that he doesnt then know how to change it ?

I don’t think our personnel leaves FL many options in terms of formation tbf. I think we’ll see a lot of games like today where we have control and possession whilst being a bit toothless.

I just wish we had a player that could take someone on in the middle of the park and go past them. Our only threat is from width, crossing in for a Rudoni late run into the box. That’s almost the only way I see us scoring.

All our midfielders are possession players. I’d love to have a risk taker.
You mean like that Ohare or Hamer bloke

Yeah. Also that he relies on individual brilliance *cough* Rudi *cough*

The idea that he’d spent a year watching sky sports an become a tactical genius was always a bit silly.

We need some wide options from the bench. Easy to say, but some young players (PL loans) who aren’t ready for regular starts but can give us a good 20 off the bench would be ideal.

FL has struggled in the second season of whichever club he’s spent one, for the same reasons we’ve seen in his first one here. There doesn’t need to be some huge tactical overhaul, but there does need to be a shift to getting the ball up the pitch more purposefully and at higher tempo with some more intelligent off the ball movement too. You can get the ball up the pitch with quick short passes, diagonals or just by carrying it through midfield.

Execute that and it doesn’t matter if you face a ‘low block’ or a ‘high line’, you unpick both and no team at this level enjoys facing it. More of a threat and more entertaining at the same time.

Even watching palmer come on. In 5 minutes he’d taken a shot from distance and played a through ball which was cut out.

People will say yeah, neither worked. But when we’re trying to unlock a defence, I want a player that’s prepared to try the 10%’ers rather than the 90%’ers.

So bored of grimes, torp, sheaf, allen getting it and knowing the only ball you’ll see is a spread to the wing.

Bit of an over reaction It’s the same players and same system that got us 5th last season. Still got 3 weeks to go to bring in what we need, don’t panic 😂

Even after yesterday, no championship manager has collected more points than Lampard since his arrival.

I say it every year, it takes at least 5 games for all teams to settle into a season. Only then do you start to get an indication who is capable and who might struggle. Even then it can turn over a season.

But anybody fretting after one game, please take a breath for your own sanity.

Thinking on it, if we are playing torp and Rudoni, would it be better to go for a 4-3-3 and just allow Torp and Rudoni to play as 8s?

Might force us to play more centrally at times like the Sunderland league match last year?

Early days.
You do wonder where the goals are coming from, first full season tho give him chance.

His pre match presser using Drogba in the same sentence as Wright was funny tho 😂

I’m confused as to what some of you were expecting this season.

I thought we considered ourselves play off contenders? Which means there will be plenty of games we don’t win.

Were some of you expecting us to win every game?

He's a talented manager, he was sticking with Plan A for game 1, I don't mind that, but do understand the frustration. We played a solid team today baffled people are saying Hull will drop just can't see that at all
I was impressed with Hull, they had a plan played exactly to it and got what they wanted. Yes we may have had 17 shots but how many of those troubled their keeper? Both team employed the same tactics as at the end of last season with exactly the same outcome.

They had a plan Frank played the same plan he always does then doesn't change it when it's not working.Very much needs a plan B as we are very to work out.Maybe should of brought simms on and went two up top, just to give there defence something else to think about. But no just changed like for like.

And it looks like the no interaction with fans before the game made no difference to the teams concentration.

It's the same every season.
First season back most people said they'd be happy just to stay up then spent the season moaning because we weren't playing like promotion contenders

No I’m NOT calling for his replacement already but…questions need to be asked.

The quite ridiculous sticking to a rigid tactical formation (without changing to another) that clearly wasn’t doing anything against a Hull side clearly there for the taking.

Lack of a pressing system that FL said that he himself would like to adopt. High press and attacking football I think he said-which we have only seen fleetingly.

Leaving a striker on the bench and bringing on a left back as a winger when we clearly need a goal. In fact bringing on a clearly unfit striker in a central role we all know he clearly can’t do and bringing off the one player who looked like he could create something was baffling.

Not advocating anything rash but FL has the whole of the summer to address the tactical side and thinking of alternatives if one system doesn’t work.

Same old ponderous slow build up bollocks-is it the players or the system?

Playing Hull was a perfect opportunity to be a bit more risky and try something different.

I’ve not mentioned recruitment deliberately as that out of FL’s hands. But we clearly need some pace and creativity in this team.

Positives-we didn’t look like conceding and the goalie was bloody brilliant.

Just trying to stimulate some discussion NOT calling for Franks replacement or wetting the bed!

Thoughts?

Are you saying you want Lampard out? A bit cryptic this …

Im saying I wouldn’t hold my breath for us to suddenly start playing differently. If we keep Haji and Rudi and they stay in form we’ll be OK but Lampard has never been a “greater than the sum of your parts” manager. In expecting upper midtable this season 8-12 but that’s just on the quality of our squad. If we want promotion under Lampard we’ll need a much better squad.

Let’s be frank, the reaction to a DRAW, not a defeat, a DRAW, is fucking embarrassing

I can understand it in maybe 10 games from now, if we are still that flat and have minimal points on the board, but it's the first game. I get the impression many people's expectations are a lot higher than mine. The 'where will we finish' thread was certainly full of a lot of optimism in that sense.

In my opinion we need some more serious work in the transfer window if we're going to be as good as some people think we are.

This notion that our squad was fine because we finished 5th was always nonsense. It had glaring weaknesses

It’s difficult to address though unless you find buyers for the players who were poor signings and need moving on
