Former Coventry City striker Leon Clarke has tried to build bridges with Wolves fans underwhelmed by his return to his boyhood club.

Clarke joined Wolves today after the Sky Blues accepted a third bid for League One’s leading scorer.

The 18-goal hitman had handed in a transfer request earlier this month and sat out Tuesday night’s defeat at Leyton Orient – drawing a stinging rebuke from manager Steven Pressley in his post-match interview.

His return has not been universally popular with the Molineux faithful who remember his ‘shhh’ goal celebration for Wolves when he had become a target of the boo boys in his first spell there.

Leon Clarke does his best to win favour with underwhelmed Wolves fans“At the time there was a lot of immaturity from me,” said Clarke.

“But I’m a completely different person nine years later and more experienced. You learn from things like that, take them on board and try to be a better person.

“You look at the way you go about things and try to do them differently and be professional.

“I know how any player at Wolves is judged and that’s on hard work. If you’re not working hard enough for the team then it’s right that you get dug out.

“As a striker you need to score a lot of goals and, hopefully when I get the opportunity, I’m going to do that and make sure I hit the ground running.”

Clarke believes he is a better player than when he left Molineux seven years ago.

“As you get older you get more know-how and you do things differently and pick different things up,” he said.

“I’ve played a lot of games now and feel like I have progressed. Having been here for so long when I was younger, it feels right to be back again.”
