Left Back, Left Wing Back (1 Viewer)

There were two schools of thought last season. Our left sided wide defenders were a weakness or they were always being exposed because Haji or Ephron were not helping them out. Oggy believed it was the latter.
We have Brau and he is being played at left sided midfield so far which is strange. I wonder if Frank is trying a system when he wants to close down matches? It worked with Downs and Pickering when we won the FA Cup. Or perhaps it is just a fitness thing.
Does anyone have any stats that say we conceded more goals down the left or the right?

99.9% sure Brau is playing left wing just to get him out on the pitch and minutes in his legs.
I also suspect this to be true, but it's weird.

Presumably, he's expected to play left back, but in that case, play him there in the friendlies so he can adapt to how he's going to be expected to play that position in our system. Dasilva knows the system, so why not give him minutes in midfield rather than the new guy?

Pre season is all about game time and putting plans together. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Our problem at left back last season was that our left backs weren’t good enough. Dasilva is never going to be defensively sound. Tidy on the ball, yes, to be relied on to prevent goals, no. Bidwell in the second half of the season looked shot.

From what I saw in the Monaco game I would be surprised if Brau is ahead of Bidwell or Dasilva come the first game of the season, or whether he would even be on the bench, although I do appreciate its probably unfair to judge him entirely on that game. If MVE is still with us I would expect FL to start him with KKH on the left. If MVE leaves then KKH would move to the right with probably Dasilva starting on the left.

I'm still hoping MVE stays one more season, but I do get the feeling he is likely to be sold once we get a decent offer.

I only saw the first half of the Monaco game and hardly any play was on our left hand side. Most of it was either central or on our right hand side. You could not assess any of our players on the left they hardly saw the ball.

Yes he was rarely involved, but when he was he seemed to miscontrol the ball or lose possession quite easily. To be fair to him Monaco is a big step up from what he's been playing against and he will hopefully improve, but he seemed way off being a starter come the first game of the season.
